Re: Thunderstorms Sept 28th-30th
Thanks Paul, I will upload a sequence of photos tomorrow that show the roation very well.
Having a bbq tonight and very very dark to the north as the sun set. Cannot see any flashes as YET. Getting spitting rain here as the band slowly builds south. Sounds like auckland is getting hammered.
Far out check out the hook on the radar to the west of the Kaipara harbour. Thats nuts!!!!! It even looks like it is a new low that has formed there.

Excellent long lived thunderstorm here, some heavy rain, heaps of lightning and thunder!! There were some minutes where you could see up to 4 flashes. Got some good booms too
Wouldn't expect hail here, pretty unusual in these parts

wow, this persistant rotation moving in from the NW is sure going to be interesting when it gets here
its like a small low that has developed!

Re: Thunderstorms Sept 28th-30th
How can we be sure it's rotating? I see a certain 'hook' on the radar but how do we know its a mesocycle or whatever theyre called?

Have had a fantasic display to the north for the last half hour. Still going and only getting better!!! Certainly a Syndey style strom isnt it! That hook is still going strong unless it is a new low that has developed.

Re: Thunderstorms Sept 28th-30th
best thunderstorm ive seen in ages, holy moly. what a treat! that was massive, and very supercellular in appearance. first time ive seen mammatus cloud as well.
and holy bejesus that rotation now to the direct W of auckland and heading for taranaki is ominous. if i was living there, i would get the hell underground, now!

Wow the lightning show to the north is fantastic!!!!!!
That Hook on the radar i think is more likely to hit the Waikato than Taranaki.

Re: Thunderstorms Sept 28th-30th
yes that rotation looks like it has Raglan as a target.
We currently have spectacular lightning to the north (my photography is no way near good enough to catch that) and just getting flashes to the west now aswell.
