I can see that on the 6pm radar bit of heavyness in the area, obviously marking the cold front.
Been fresh cool NE all day here with scrappy high cloud, and about 5 spots of rain around 3pm .

The front is moving quite slowly but might pick up as it gets more into the Canterbury Plains.
Quite a steady rain band on the 7pm radar, worth keeping a wee eye on .

Its looking more like stratiform rain now but the front should move through the CHCH area with a bit of a whomp - gusting 30 kts or so at first. But we can't give up on the convection yet!

nothing much happening here, had a dark cloud pass through at 7pm but other than that only a couple drops of rain doesn't look like much from this one.

Wait, there was a tornado in Halswell in 2002? Im aware of one in the 80's ive been told about. I was born in 1988 lived in the same house im in all my life. Wind gusting to 36kts now in Asburton. Have had a couple of lightning strikes inland south Canterbury a little while ago!

Still dry and calm here in chch, doesnt seem like its going to change for a while yet, although Jim Hickey predicted thre bad stuff would be here by now.

Front went through Oamaru at 6.30pm , gusty Sthly at 30 kts at home, mod ra just prior to front. ,obvious squall line moved through ,, good Tcu over Oamaru buildingas it moved north towards Glenavy
