Worth watching the front out to our west on the satellite. Hopefully we will see fresh anvil blow ups on it.

Re: A Bigga Trough's' a'Comin'
windspeed slowly increasing here again...signs that the next front is getting closer
picking up strikes way to my NW...
sat animation shows the cell blow ups on the approaching front are weakening if anything...me reckons...

MS have a severe thuderstorm watch out for auckland northwards... hmmm unless the skies clear i cant really see them happening. unless there is stronger cooling aloft that has been forecast that wasnt yesterday.

More rain arriving here now, 16C dewpoint.
Looks very active to the NW of Northland currently on that second line, top of Northland looks to be in the firing line.

Re: A Bigga Trough's' a'Comin'
Again abit of CU has developed inland this afternoon also a few puffs over the port hills, clouds are now spilling eastwards.
Maybe an isolated shower from it as the NE here is quite fresh around 30kmh.
That warm front looks beafyish just entering Marlborough now i would say, might be some good falls of rain overnight.
Up to 23C before the NE picked up and now 20C currently.

Re: A Bigga Trough's' a'Comin'
I agree that it doesn't look interesting for Auckland at the moment. The front seems to lack the punch on the satellite
Upper Northland looks more in the firing line according to lightning tracker.

Thunderstorm near kaitaia moving SE, perhaps the top half of Northland in the firing line currently

wind gone northerly here now
so it could still swing down onto the auckland area
update: unstable looking sky here now

Re: A Bigga Trough's' a'Comin'
No, nothing happened watched the line coming in and all we got was a heavy dumping of rain - then it gracefully rolled in overtop passing over moving SE.spwill wrote:Thunderstorm near kaitaia moving SE, perhaps the top half of Northland in the firing line currently
Needless to say I was very abit disappointed that I heard no rumbles, no lightning, not a flash or strike... nada, nil... zilch... so for now, rain, rain... just go away... the tanks are topped and truly overflowing - take care.
edit reasons: correcting typo's and all that jazz...

Re: A Bigga Trough's' a'Comin'
A few isolated showers about inland south canterbury this evening, the CU further inland from before here has now died off.
If there's good daytime heating tomorrow afternoon once the rain clears, there might be a thunderstorm chance but low at this stage.
Edit that, Karen just said there were some isolated thunderstorms about the Canterbury Foothills this afternoon interesting indeed .

Re: A Bigga Trough's' a'Comin'
Finally something to drag me out of lurk mode
Just back in from picking up the pieces - Monster microburst came through NW Kerikeri at about 17:45. Winds peaked at 138km/Hr.
Looking very brooding over to the west, could be a fun evening.

Re: A Bigga Trough's' a'Comin'
there is someone I have not heard from for a while, Cbfan
sounds like a good squall came through your area!
looks like a nice bow echo on the rain radar moved across northland
the auckland area is going to miss out on this line

Hi Cbfan and thanks for report. A 138km/h gust from convection is something!
Looking forward to a dry day in Auckland tomorrow before the instability rolls in again Saturday.

Looking interesting towards 'Thunderstorm Corner' with some cloud wind shear forms, at the moment but sadly ,it's getting late in the day.spwill wrote:1 strike showing up mid Canterbury foothills.i am assuming south Canterbury foothills going by this satelitte here taken at 3pm.
