Interesting indeed this front has some punch in it alright, just wait until it hits the Birdlings Flat area things should get going then.
Havnt seen any flashes myself yet though.

Look inland, say, towards the Methven area from your place in Kaiapoi, although flashes are rather intermittant now.

WOW - just back in to put on an extra jumper but the flashes over the mountains, towards Hutt and higher up towards Springfield direction are fab! \:D/ Sky is moody, too, and very dark south of me towards the Rakaia...

In the dark, it looks like a wall cloud.pre southerly. I just saw a bolt come down and now I think the wind is turning to strong southerly.
It is ...and that's it for the night

Short wind squall here when I reported back then but light SE now.
Thunderstorm obviously moving north along the foothills of the Alps.
Morfnz report in please. I wonder if Richard will get it, or maybe died out by then?
Another bright flash to the west just now. :D
Distant thunder heard.

The wall cloud passed over but the lightning was well to the west. Out of TC and now slowly moving northward.
Now quite calm, well a very light ESE and a 'sleepy' barometer on the rise. No rain yet.

I've got my first audible thunder now, too. Wind very strong/gusty from south. Lightning flashes are over Methven/Rakaia Gorge way. Light rain. Wall of cloud still looks a fair distance off - over Methven in my best judgement... heading this way.

Ive seen a few good flashes one with an actual bolt come out the side into the sky and lit up the wind change line cloud.
Breezy southerly came through few spots of rain now nothing major to report just yet, but still occasional sporadic flashes getting closer i think.

The proper southerly has just come through with the usual barometer rise. Now windy and coming onto rain.
As I do my reading from 10pm, the rainfall total will come up in tomorrows weather.

I must commend Jase from Kaiapoi for being adament that a thunderstorm was going to occur today on the front.
Good on you Jase. =D>
Interesting also that it was inland and not coastal.
