I did say sleet and hail to low levels though!03Stormchaser wrote:Looking quickly at the models change should arrive late in the day, upper air gets very cold -32C!! early thursday morning. Southerly near gale force if not gale in exposed places. Snow to low levels looks very likely on wednesday/thursday, I see Bob picking 300m, wont be surprised if 200m or lower.
Blueskies on the other hand only picking 400m!

Re: Cool end to October
Well a very blustery NE here this morning with daytime heating.Getting to 16 degrees despite such a fresh 30-40km/h NE. So conditions are good in that part for Thunderstorms. Cloud has increased with much high cloud now. I see MS saying light winds tending westerly. Well they certainly havent been light all morning! NE well and truly prevailing! Queenstown has "snow showers developing" forecast, interesting...

Re: Cool end to October
I Wouldnt write anything off yet the main front is still to the south by the looks.
There has been some strikes down near Dunedin somewhere in the last hour or so, certainly is a bugger about that NWer kicking in.
Remember we had lightning at 10pm the other week.
I shall keep my eyes peeled.

First wave of the change just coming through sliding out over the peninsula with a few spits here in town. The real event will be later I suspect.

Re: Cool end to October
Looks like a line has been set off from the SW wind change with Banks Peninnsula picking up some precip going by the 6pm radar.
It is very SW at the moment the shower activity i mean, but give it a few hours and it will be more S-SW.
Trackers have picked up a few more strikes not sure where but stevens one picks them up off BP.

Re: Cool end to October
Hi all..My thoughts on tomorrow .. for what its worth...
to midnight Thursday ...
A cold trough should push northwards over the South Island thru the remainder of today, reaching Cook Strait overnight, then clearing the North Island in the morning. A squally southerly change is expected with the trough, with heavy showers and hail. Becoming colder, with snow reaching 300 metres in the far south, 500 metres about Wellington and 6-700 metres further north. Cold southerlies and showers should persist for much of the south and east tomorrow, although they should gradually ease later as weak ridging pushes over the South Island.
It should be a cold but fairly brief event.
