Blast. I've been down to Raukokore and across to Galatea today. Never saw a thing. Pretty windy day, but only the odd shower.Tornado Tim wrote:It seems a few weak thunderstorms have developed off the coast of Tauranga, The Kaimais would have helped push the air up.
Update: man the air is dry, I have a DP of 2°C, RH of 40%

Got very cold! Should be clearing tomorrow with nice sunny spells, frosts sat morning i should expect.
Wont be any low lying snow around sorry but you may get to see some good old NW mountain rain and on the coast if you are going that far.tgsnoopy wrote:Wow, the temp dropped a heap overnight. Went to bed with about 19 in and 15 out and it dropped to 5 out and only 14 in. Brr.
Looking forward to my trip on the Trans Alpine train on Sunday just after this latest snow, please let some of the lower lying stuff still be around by then.
Have a nice time! Wave to Arthur's Pass for me! If you stop long enough there, try and see the Devil's Punchbowl waterfall... well worth it!tgsnoopy wrote:Looking forward to my trip on the Trans Alpine train on Sunday just after this latest snow, please let some of the lower lying stuff still be around by then.
Yes, you're right. Stuffed-up on that earlier comment about gales on both harbours - the 63 km/h mean-wind at 6pm was for Tiritiri while the Waitemata reading was 54 km/h, although winds at Mokohinau in the outer Gulf peaked later with gusts to 80 km/h. Winds exceeding gale-force funnelled through the Manukau Heads throughout the day, but max-winds at Auckland Aero, which is exposed to SW'ers, were only 51 km/h, gusting to 76 km/h (41 knots) - quite a high wind/gust ratio though.Manukau heads observer wrote:was a very gusty SSW yesterday afternoon alright
the average was not all that high, but big gusts (40 knots) that went well inland
