That cold air not reaching Auckland with 13C dewpoints here, currently partly cloudy 18C.Looks like ground frosts this morning in the inland South Island and central NI going by some of the temps. 0C at Taupo and Omarama.

Re: General November Weather
Really it was warm out in North Canterbury today, i found the NE breeze to be less cool too.
Ive found that often christchurch is alot cooler under a NE even in summer, i am just as close to the sea as Christchurch is etc.
Again some mid level CU about this evening from a lower level trough flicking the coast.
This next front will have more impact than Mondays one which barly dribbled 1mm, but a brief smattering of showers around 6-10am then it should be all clearing again.

Re: General November Weather
there is a rule
when the wind drops fast like it did yesterday and the weather clears up quick to be a nice day, like yesterday, all of a sudden, then it wont last
back to anticlyclonic gloom onshore cool SW winds here

Re: General November Weather
im sick of this crappy weather. I would rather cloudless windless days all summer than this crap we keep getting. Hopefull this cycle breaks shortly. Yesterday was nice in that it was cloudless and windless until the evening (hamilton).

Re: General November Weather
Yes, cooler air onto Auckland today, dewpoints below 10C, current temp 14C.
ECMWF shows an end to this general current cool/cold flow over NZ later next week. Upper level High over southern Australia on the move then , hopefully.

Re: General November Weather
Experience tells us that these El Nino SW patterns last till Xmas. Looks like there maybe a bit of a decent trough early next week which will break the monotony of the stable S'Westers.

Re: General November Weather
Not much with this change either enough to just create a slightly damp ground when i woke up at 7am, but nothing great.
However when i was In Rangiora this morning it came onto heavy rain for abit, it seems the shower activity was better inland.
Also had a shower around 2pm which developed as it went over and chucked down a few tiny hailstones.
Fridays front presents a very slight thunderstorm risk provided the NE can get up good before roughly midday, other then that we still sit on the knifes edge waiting for that first proper thunderstorm of the coming season.

Re: General November Weather
1.5mm here this morning. So totalof 1.5mm for November so far. Looks like 3 or 4 warm days from Saturday afternoon onwards with NW prevailing. Yay! Looks like a pattern change occurring too with some runs picking up a bit of a subtropical low to hit parts of the North Island next Tuesday or so. Hopefully Sunday to Tuesday see's temps in the mid 20's. Possibly late 20's for some isolated areas.

Re: General November Weather
The SW winds wernt as strong as expected here perhaps because the lack of daylight heating,it always Increases them,Unfortunately I reckon this summer will be riddled with them because in summer we never get these southely troughs with cooler weather like we can in winter and the coolness of the country overall has to disappear before real summer even kicks in.

Re: General November Weather
Beautiful morning here. 16 degrees and dead still. Hardly a cloud in the sky. The forecast high of 15 was always going to be passed. It is now ammended to 16 but more like 20 today, long as the NE doesnt get too fresh too soon. Sat onwards 22, 23, 22 respectively. Tuesday shows a rapid deepening low hitting the south island now, west coast with the bulk, some brief heavy falls possible with the winds tending S for the east, one to keep an eye on.

I think November won't end up too much cooler than normal for Auckland as we typically experience onshore SW winds in November anyway. Our mins are tracking about average, maximums a bit below. Sunshine should be well down though.the coolness of the country overall has to disappear before real summer even kicks in.
