It does look unstable, doesn't it? Not enough convection to create anything, I feel, dammit!

Wow, did anybody take any photo of the southerly as it came through Christchurch? It looked very menacing and dark, really impressive. I was shopping over at Papanui and raced home to grab my camera but was too slow, it was moving very fast.

Yeah, must admit it was moving at a hell of a rate.It was right over me here by the time I saw it coming and booted up the computer. It looked very scary too.

It arrived here with an 85km/h gust and a jump in pressure of 4hPa in 30 minutes. My webcam caught part of it.

A very strong to gale force southerly change alright, and it sure had some omph in it.
Yes not bad convective clouds this morning especially for 10am, the wind woke me up so i only seen it just starting to roll over head.
Rain band sitting to the south maybe some decent hail showers too, so cover the veges  .
I would definatly say looking at those clouds before Wellington could have a thunderstorm this afternoon with that change.
Good luck for those heading to the show today, i wonder how many stools went flying in the gale southerly as its very exposed through the CAP grounds ( Canterbury Agricultural Park ).

One of the gusts took one of my Olive trees out,45.7kph @ 09.47,and blew over a neighbours recycle bin.
Let just say I know a lot more personal information about my neighbour than I should do now. ;)
I wish people would buy shredders,no wonder people get their I.D.stolen.

Another tree down in Redwood somewhere and branches falling on the main road near Cheviot.
This is the typical good southerlys we havnt seen in awhile comes through with a hiss and a roar, causing a few problems.
Phew looks black to the west looking out my window, rain soon i would imagine.

TV 1 midday news showed good shots of the strong southerly ripping through the show grounds and shows power lines (rotten looking power pole) and trees (in full foliage) with branches blown off, by reported 90kmh gusts

yes, looking forward to a BFH next weekend

 dont want to share anything else? :P

Yes that S did come in with a bang, surprisingly no thunder activity formed as it was unstable as it was passing over.
Didn't see that roll cloud come in :( but was watching trackside before and they showed in coming in " speed up" looked awesome.

southerly change just hit HB, very gusty and can see the wall of dust picked up by the wind moving across the plains.

I was in a location where I had the most spectacular view of this front approaching but unfortunately didn't have my camera. Seconds before it hit we saw a wave move rapidly across the grass, which reminded me of footage I've seen of atomic bomb tests where a shock wave propates outwards from ground zero. When it hit branches started falling around us and my son and I were walking around at 45deg angles. The roll cloud was spectacular and extended from the Port Hills to quite a way inland. I've decided I'm not going to leave home without my camera in future.
