Tomorrow it seems Waikato is left out on the action and Auckland and Northland gets it.....
Just did a run through with WXSIM and it is agreeing with M/S at this stage... LOL

Tim where in Northland?

From Whangarei north to Cape Reinga the locals break it into zones like... Far North (FN) and Mid North (MN) regions ie;
Cape Reinga to roughly about Kerikeri is and all areas inbetween is FN - from Kaikohe to Whangarei its MN... anyway... going to post some pics I took today over on the general dec thread - take care.

I would drop the thunder word from the Auckland City forecast today. Looking like we should be stuck in fairly overcast cool conditions with showers but I doubt thunderstorms. These are more possible over lower Northland. I can't see us getting the forecast max temp of 22C either.

I wonder whether the Manuwatu tornado was a devil.

Yes, I did wonder about that, but going by the description of "a big mushroom cloud ... about 200m high", it certainly sounds more like a tornado - a lot more powerful and longer lasting than your average devil too - perhaps an FE1?

I see MetService have a confident thunderstorm forecast for Auckland today.

Considering a drive north this afternoon into the warmer weather/sunshine of Northland.
15C here overcast light rain.

MS talk about two different zones. The wind convergence in northland and the actual front over auckland. Which will you be going for spwill?

If the front does get firing is it expected to slowly drift south onto northern waikato? i sure hope it does.

Would be good to get north of these overcast skies and hopefully something interesting develops up there.

A drive up SH16 would run into that very active, slow moving and strengthening line..

yikes! that line on the 15min radar looks nasty and continues to build and slowly head towards the city. So very tempted to get the afternoon off. I would not be all that surprised if metservice issue a full thunderstorm warning by 2.30.

Go on... do it jamie.h _b - spwill's contemplating it... not sure what NZ Storm is doing... not only that I do like your thunderstorm video's - you take good storm footage, your've got an eye for angle's and lines of those storm fronts... awesome...
