the warning was lifted because the rain radar went offline almost an hour ago. very unfortunate. i think the warning should remain in effect tbh.

Observed heavy rain /surface water and thunder just north of Helensville but the line weakened quickly with the cooler surface conditions I guess, there is still some very heavy showers on the line, I see there has been lightning strikes last hr eastern Northland, a warmer day up that way.

auckland is saturated at this point!

edit: looks like there may be some reorganization as the convergence zones combine

Is that a horse-shoe funnel in that image spwill? Or is it just something on the lense?

Its just to the centre-left just under the cloud base

Rain has eased off here, 17mm since midnight, but not much around now. Hopefully will see some of the forecast heavy falls tonight!

re the Manawatu tornado

Could this have occurred on Wednesday. I have had a flick through the soundings from Paraparam and the the midday sounding for Wednesday looks favorable for severe thunderstorm development. Good instability with good shear. I'm quite convinced the tornado must have occurred on Wednesday, not Tuesday.

same here, in fact the wife got home and was surpised I was not chasing it!
I was on a surfboard at about the time
and could see some great looking cloud lowerings off the coast down that way, and then another one off Piha way that nearly looked like it was going to develop a water spout :)

Just been for a drive around Bethells Beach and roads are covered in water, creeks have burst their banks. A couple of the creeks looks like they'll threaten some houses soon Just saw a guy get his car stuck in some fast flowing water on Bethells Road. Id say they wont be far from closing it. Has been torrential out here for the last 2 hours! Lots of pictures.

How do I add attachments?

Boy that rain is really heavy again - no end in sight over the next few hours. Would be really keen to hear from anyone who has seen flooding, slips etc. Thanks heaps!
