Re: General December Weather
Evening,
Well, we have had a couple of superb days of big blue domed skies here in the bay with the ocassional thread appearance of a whispy cloud here and there to break the monotony of the blue.
It is very dry in the FN and MN regions... rain would be most welcome... yesterday, today or tomorrow.

Re: General December Weather
Very very nice day here today. for once the wind stayed calm and didnt blow in the afternoon. still green here but needing some rain rather badly or it will go to crap very quickly with the westerly winds we keep getting. hopefully not a 3rd drought in 3 years.
driving to a bbq tonight i saw a new house down the road had not 1 but 3 anemometers on the roof and some other weather crap. might have to pop in one day and see what their deal is and if they are online. They are only 5km down the road.
having to do a bit of DIY on the station here. forgot that being a wireless station it needs a good reception. there is a crop of maize between the house and the station on its only getting taller and thicker so im going to put the sender units (ISS and wireless repeater) up on a tall post that will sit 3m up in the air to get above the maize when its fully grown. what i need though are some male-female cables (3 of them (hum/temp,solar and rain)) so the ISS sender unit can sit away from the station, but i could not find any at the likes of dick smith. i rung he Davis place in hamilton but they did not answer as per usual lol. does anyone know where you can get male-female cables? i will try the davis place in hamilton again tomorrow anyway and hopefuly zoe will answer.

Re: General December Weather
There are coupling kits (i dont know why Davis didnt know, LOL) but they come with the extra wire( for extensions)
They suggest cutting the wires and then using the coupling kit which pull out the 4 or 6 internal wires and joining them together.
There is the gender changer which they provide too but they say its for "indoor" use.
I could give you more info but theres is only so much info i can write down, LOL

Re: General December Weather
This weak surface trough looks very cloudy and I wonder how much sunshine we will get in Auckland today. And unfortunately the upper trough is moving away, just as the better moisture moves in. The departing upper trough should generate a thunder risk over the Gisborne region this afternoon.

Re: General December Weather
Fantastic morning it has turned out to be here. 23 degrees, blue dome skies and very light breeze, the northeast has died out to my surprise (probably temporarily) Xmas day looking like 30 possible. Hopefully it tends NW early. Off to Kaiteriteri new years, last year all 14 days were hot sunny with no wind, hoping for the same!

Re: General December Weather
Dry day here, but convergence shower cloud just to the west, around 22C, dewpoints around 15C.ended up with a heavy shower, 6.9mm
An afternoon shower pattern again for the NorthIsland early next week otherwise generally a stable weather outlook , cooler to finish the year as SW flow spreads over NZ.

Anticyclonic and stable for the first week of January too according to gfs. So could be a while before we see some proper instability in these parts.

Re: General December Weather
What a cracker of a day it was today, the light NE didnt get up which meant the temperature could rise quite high.
25C the maximum not bad at all, and a nice slow day to wind down to xmas.

Re: General December Weather
I'm a bit surprised - we've been getting lots of nice days up here, but the temperature never gets very high at all? Seems like a cooler summer than usual, hmmmm

Re: General December Weather
Afternoon,
Gawd it's hot! well it's a dry, sunny day with a light nor'easterly breeze - quesstimate temp 22 C out feels like 24 C though!
Countryside is looking drier, and drier everyday - there is a complete fire ban on all open fires in the FN region until furthur notice.

I wanted to post these images last evening... however, was a tad wee bit tired anyway... beautiful skies last evening here in the bay... and another dry looking hill pic.

Re: General December Weather
Quite agree David, the heat doesn't seem to be there yet. I think we may get a very warm Jan/Feb though due to El Nino.I'm a bit surprised - we've been getting lots of nice days up here, but the temperature never gets very high at all? Seems like a cooler summer than usual, hmmmm

Just looked through my stats, in the last 3 weeks it's reached 24° or higher on only 3 days hereNZstorm wrote: Quite agree David, the heat doesn't seem to be there yet. I think we may get a very warm Jan/Feb though due to El Nino.
Hopefully some nice heat coming up as you think may happen, except "hopefully" is a poor word for those who hate the heat...lol
