Its got an outdoor monitor and the other part is for indoors which takes the readings.
It will be interesting to watch the pressure drop just before the NW arrives.

24 degrees outside at the moment with a ENE breeze. If that NW kicks in anytime soon it will hit near 30 for sure. It probably wont reach till late in the day though. 27 in Timaru currently and 102km/h winds in Southwest Cape. Merry Christmas Everyone! (My sister had the best intentions with my xmas present, she gave me you know whos almanac  the guy that does not get mentioned on this forum. What I think I will do is each day write what really happens on each day of next year and send it back to him! See if he passes the test, mark out of 365 and he needs 80% to pass lets say!

Is a lovely blue dome sky today,no doubt it will go SW seabreeze rather than a northerly in the afternoon keeping a lid on temperatures.

^ Same as Ricky. 8) Fine with light SW'ers and opposing sea-breezes here. Max and still on 24.6C with DPs around 15C, after a coolish 12.4C at 6:40am, although that quickly shot up to 22C by 11am.

Cloudy day with high cloud in Palmerston, but warm - thermometer showed 26C, though not too far away Dunedin it must've been very warm with a 32C max shown on TV1 Weather tonight.

Note that Dunedin's rounded 32C yesterday was recorded at the airport. I see MetService's city site only recorded 26.4C, although most central Dunedin PWS's seemed to be around the 28C mark. I think the main reason MetService use Dunedin Aero for their web-site is because it's their only site that has a barometer and hygrometer.

It never actually turned NW here yesterday, remainded ENE and turned variable after dark, the ENE prevailed at around 20km/h all day. Otherwise 30's would have been hit. It felt more like 30 though as dewpoints were a little higher than normal.

Just confirming that Dunedin Aero's max-temp yesterday was exactly 32.0C, so only a second-equal Dec record with 1998.

Dunedin's Aerodrome, if you could call it that [-X , is on the Taieri Plain about 13 Kms south of Mosgiel, so the temperature is not really as what is represented in the city, as which the barometer and hydrometridge there would be similar to those at Musselburgh.

Last time I looked, Dunedin Aero was WSW of Mosgiel? And yes, Dunedin Aero is also about 25km WSW of the city on the Taieri Plain, so not very representative of central Dunedin (nor the city). This has been discussed numerous times in the past and why I pointed it out earlier.

MetService's city site (commissioned by Otago District Council) is near the Octagon and, from what I understand, doesn't have a barometer or hygrometer, whereas the Musselburgh site is owned by NIWA.
