Had a VERY brief shower with hail and very brief rain shower, not enough to record anything. No thunder heard from where I am in Christchurch, not even distant.

Apparently it absolutely hosed down when i was out about 2pm?? as i got home and the ground was absolutely soaked and big puddles!
Yeah got wee bit hail and some big sporadic drops! nothing really to rave about, i thought there may have been something going off north Canterbury way but it didn't look good enough to chase.
Bugger ah well.. should be another chance in the next 3 weeks :P

Going through my footage one CG looks to have come down just behind Woodend somewhere, so hopefully no major damage to anyones property.
For those asking my cable cord slot for the video camera is buggered, which means i can't upload the clips onto my computer.
But once i get a new camera that will change   .
Second chase for the month and i am sure there will be plenty more to come yet before i go away on the 29th.
Interesting looks like another round of heavy showers have developed south of christchurch on the 5pm radar.

Must have been somewhat localised as the concrete never once got completely wet :?:

Well the winds died down here and it is looking rather grey and overcast now, especially towards TC.
Shame about no rain apart from the 3 spits we got from off the glaciated top of the CB cloud just after the gusto front moved over.
I promised my wife 20mms of rain per week over the summer period for Christmas, and the disappointment of today's promised drop is not very much in her favour. [-X
Right out with the watering can. >_<

Sad for you Richard, after it may of looked promising earlier today.
Interesting how that NE kicked in north of Christchurch. Paul or WW may know why?

Inland heating maybe? after the front went by it may have left some still air in behind.
I was in twizel today and its was clear and hot with a NW but it soon went calm.

Some pretty steady rain in chch city, no wind so it is coming straight down, quite heavy, good for the garden.

As the Oxford Santa Parade finished (c. 1pm) we all noticed the front to the south... not long (30 mins later or so) the wind started picking up and the rain started - came in quick. Heard a couple of rumbles, saw one flash, clouds over Alps were spectacular but there was no other discernible TS activity.

Has been hosing down ever since - garden is enjoying it - doesn't look like an end in sight to the rain for a while.

Didn't go chasing today, was very tired after a trip down south (still am! Bed soon!). Looks like activity wasn't overly active so perhaps didn't miss out on to much. Heard a little bit of thunder at home today in Bryndwr.

Good stuff getting out there Jase! Look forward to your CG videos.

Cheers

Was out at ranigora races all afternoon, constant thunder for a period of about an hour, saw a number cc strikes, no hail though. Another non-photogenic storm.

Agreed, the cloud base has been very low with these lately. o_O

Showers and a strong gusty southerly out here so far this morning. Wind picked up again last evening after earlier easing, and must've been near gale at times overnight.

It was a fresh to strong NW here right up till the front was damn near over head, with lower cloud tearing into the system from the SE,which is always a good sign here,it just looked so promising and to have it come to nothing ...is :x ...oh well  this weekends looking promising \:D/

For me that is Andrew, the storms that the Canterbury plains get hardly ever make it here, its the inland summer heating plus weak troughs that provide most of our storm systems.
