I have this song going through my head...

"Thunder to the left of me, cumulus to the right,
Here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you"

Just watched lightning display, slightly to the east of us. Closest strikes were 2 seconds away. Had a very strong hail storm and heavy rain. Water pouring into our conservatory like a waterfall. Had to rush our and find buckets etc. Got some video on the camera. Will try and load onto youtube. Junior stormwatchers, ages 7 and 12 very impressed with the display.

Weird, am I in the middle of some strange meteorological phenomena? Above me blues skies, temps says 19degs, wind dropped, it's warm and dry yet all around me huge cloud build ups or black horizons... like being in the eye of a storm or three...!

Few spots of rain now in chch. The 4pm rain radar would indicate that it is somehwhat heavier than it actually is, that must be just north of town.

Still dry here - sun has disappeared behind a covering of dark cloud and can feel the temp dropping fast.... to the south can see blue skies to the north black.

Am trying to upload video to youtube. First time I've done this. Anyways, heres a clip of the flooding inside our conservatory during the severest part of the hailstorm this afternoon.

Cheers

P.s Next week, from the 16th to be exact, I am relocating to Westport. Will keep you up to date on weather over there, and I'm planning on installing a weather recording system. I note that there are not many weather watchers west of the alps.

Driving home from Chch on the motorway between Chaneys Cnr and the Lineside turnoff to Rangiora I was in the middle of a very heavy rainstorm. From there the road was dry and at home here in Woodend we still have had nothing.. no rain no hail
the black clouds rolled past heading from Rangiora way to New Brighton. Currently 20.2C and a slight SSW wind blowing

Lightning in NZ
The right terminology lends a hint as to the nature of the different forms.
A Vertigo Quote.
