I can see that cb in the hunua from here. A stronger looking cloud now but not much lightning from it. I think we were a bit short on convergence over the Auckland area today.

Photo here taken late afternoon from Ramarama, south Auckland.

Cool photo as always, thanks for sharing - I don't have a view to the NE so couldn't see that CB. :(

Looking unstable with good convergence over the eastern half of the North Island. But there is no upper flow there so storms will be the very wet pulse type, not my favourite storm set up.

GFS indicates the possibility of more tstorms tomorrow afternoon closer to Auckland over the BOP/Coromandel.

yes, good to see some summer instability for a change! Unusual to see thunderstorms from Northland to Southland in the same day.
60mm for the month now
I see Matamata got 75mm yesterday.

Yes they get all the wonderful rain that fails to get past the Kaimais to Tauranga.

I'm off to Whakatane today, fingers crossed I might see something.

$160 to upgrade my A380 flight to Sydney tomorrow from cattle to bus class, I wonder... Very tempting to see how the other half lives.

Do it!
Emirates Business Class (assuming it is them, only A380 out of here that I know of) is worth the upgrade ;)
Back to topic tho, sometime after midnight it absolutely hosed down here on the hill with 1 very close shot of thunder & that was about it. In all the place got a nice drink yesterday, a little more would be lovely though.

13mm of rain here early morning, from heavy showers, very unexpected :)
Thought I saw a flash at 1.30am as well but watched and there was no more, no thunder heard either.

Seem to be missing most of the action here - only 8.5mm in total from this system so far.

Yes last night there were several thunderstorms that started to fire around midnight, i thought they would start to die as the sun started to go down but it seems that NE flow helped get some moisture hold the storms together.
I saw quite a few anvil crawlers and even a +ve flash!

Very humid here in Whakatane, lot's of towering, but not glaciating or looking particularly interesting... Yet.
