Hello Andrew yes it's fantastic stuff all right! The thunder storm has quieted down a bit now but there are still a lot of flashes over the Alps and to my south as well.

Hello Richard that photograph looks like a Microsoft Windows desktop picture! But you may be too far east to get this thunder storm.

Interesting how the storms have continued to fire in various places even after dark, so there certainly must be some good instability about much of the South Island.
Although having said that its currently 18.1C here with 80% humidity so i guess the air temperature is there just not the ground heating.

Yes, night lightning in Central Otago is usually nearer the Alps with spill over NW storms, so a rare type of night time storm for Central Otago, the very moist flow kept storm development going after sunset.
Chch dewpoints up 16/17C last couple of days.

It's definately felt more muggy.

Horay for the storms! Had to work though so couldn't get out, all good. The interesting bits would've been heavy rainfall and night-time lightning photography, if I could've got out behind Ashburton last night that would've been cool but oh well. I'm not sure if it continued right until it was dark or not there?

The storms up north look great! And great photo's Spwill!

Cheers

I can vouch for what Andrew was saying, there was some heavy rain for a time around 11.30 / 11.40am here at the museum.

Cheers

Must have been quite localised. Drizzle becoming a little heavier of recent times. Could get some decent rain in the next 12-18 hours I am thinking.

Yes, the rainfall in ChCh city was quite localised. Only drizzly showers on the outskirts.
...but totally 8/8 grey, Ns skies everywhere.
