High risk of T-storms - Inland Canterbury - 30th of January
What do you think of it guys, and who's on ?!
It's my day off so I don't care about the time. I just need to stop in Hoon Hay to visit a flat and then I'll be out of the city as soon as possible.

The 12oclock radar has them moving north becoming coastal and about at Oamaru at that particular time.

I'll head out of the city in a few minutes and head towards Springfield for a start. If there are other chasers today, txt me.

High cloud moving in from the west but not looking like anything thundery or thunderstormish, not like yesterday.
Becoming warm now, up to 26C now.
Edit: Thunderstorm risk now reduced. I thought it would be.

Southerly going through here now but still rather warm. There looks to be like a CB building to the NW of here, possibly where Lacertae was heading today.

Becoming colder now with an established southerly. Could be some 'violent drizzle' on the cards?? Any thunder chances now ruined, sadly, let Auckland and up there have the 'lion's share'

I caught a towering Cu over Porters Pass, a Dust Devil on Lees Valley Rd and some other stuff that I need to sort out.
Will post again once my garden will be watered and my throat refreshed with a good old Corona !

Good photos there, Ben, shame my camera has spots I can't get rid of for close up shots.

My camera is a point and shoot too ...
Thanks for comments guys ! I upgraded the firmware and now my camera can record the shots in .CR2 (the Canon Raw format), but I still struggle to understand all the tricks with the .jpg conversion and processing, so forgive me for the overall "darkness" of the shots. I'll try to find a way around it ...
EDIT : I've reworked the second picture and I LOVE the possibilities offered by the RAW imaging !!!

I was tramping in Arthurs Pass over the weekend and I can confirm a thunderstorm over the Otehake Valley from 4-6pm last evening. Got some pics of it from the Kelly Range tops, will upload in a day or two, it was really interesting to watch it pop up in the mountains like that.

Hi Lacertae
The Otehake is near Otira, a valley over from the Deception. The thunder seemed located round there where it flows into the Taramakau. Some buildups beriefly threatened further action around Arthurs Pass village also at the time but didn't quite have the oppmh. I understand a short sharp storm at the same time delivered about 10mm to Castle Hill
