Watched the storm over north Auckland from a vantage point at Takapuna. My 5th day this week in a storm!

Looks to be a chance of an isolated thunderstorm popping up over western Waikato to Auckland today. We are looking for a SW sea breeze to come in and converge with the SE.
Well done :D a storm did also develop over Northland

Can't seem to change the title of the 'Convective period, NI, 25-28th January' thread, so I've combined the more recent N.I. thunderstorm posts from that thread along with relevant posts from the 'General January Weather' thread into this one.

In total from yesterdays storm over Pukekohe, I recorded a very quickfire 27mm at the brick house.
Not so long ago the farmer arrived to let me know he recorded 90mm in his nylex down on Valley Rd.. barely 3 or 4km as the crow flies.

Just shows how much of a difference in totals can be with such a microburst.
From various reports collated through the morning that is exactly what unloaded over us yesterday afternoon. Excellent way to end the month.

For here Brian it was roughly 75 minutes from go to fwor, basically the same all over.
Down Valley Rd way at the duckpond it was major surface flooding with the pond itself, stormwater drains and the creek flowing so hard it created a vortex where the pipes were so it was extremely lucky that no kids nor anyone else decided to drain surf, it could have got very nasty.
I drove up that way quickly this morning and saw a little bit of evidence of minor flooding but didnt actually get right down there, had I known earlier I would have taken a detour.

Its strange to look at ECMWF and see easterly winds for the next 10 days!
El nino is sure taking a break at the moment (sorry if off topic!)

Hmmm that's surprising, here on the east side of Auckland, a light easterly blowing (I have a reasonable exposure to this direction)

Some nice development over the Waikato at the moment, 7th day in a row with thunderstorms down there.

Only a couple of brief showers here today, very muggy conditions

The hunuas give it a huge downslope kick, gone a little more to the SE now but still very gusty.
Enough to lose a few towels off the washing line.

I ended up having to go in to work this afternoon. Had some trouble getting in and out, had to go around floodwaters!
