sheltered parts of the eastern coromandel had sunny warm weather on Friday, with not much wind, in contrast to areas exposed to the SW!
easterly surge type rain was moving in from the NNE as I left late this morning

Classic summer's day here, sunshine and 25°C. Looking like plenty of sunshine ahead for our last 8 days of summer.

That 34C was at the Hurunui races, the blokes on the gates where saying later in the day that around 2.00 that was the general temp from cars coming in.Were the racecourse is up against the Hurunui Hills and is cut off from any breeze.
When i got home which is 5km away i saw it only made 29C,we are further out in the Amuri plains so a bit more breeze here.

Yer right Deano shes looking like another hot one coming up today

29C sounds more like it. MetService's TV max-temp for both Culverden and Hanmer Springs was 28C (taken sometime before 4pm), although Hanmer Springs highest temp so far this summer was 29C on Jan 30.

I'd say the car-temps sound a bit dodgy, particularly if they were barely moving.

yer i do think you are right about cars that are not moving, some cars were showing up 37+ which was nowhere close to the mark. There were no queues by that time of the day and what cars were coming in had only just come off SW 7.
Definitely was in the low 30's just in that area though

Overnight lows are significantly lower over the past few days in Hamilton, North Hamilton (Foggy and Jamies Station) got 6.9°C and I got 9.1°C, I wonder when we will encounter our first frost for 2010?

I've had a few overnight lows of high single figures and the recent dampness has provided us with a few mushies :yum:
Overcast and autuminal this morning with fog/mist and then low cloud and a light SW wind. Starting to clear now.
Could be back to summer with warm temperatures this coming week judging "by the way things are going"

Got to 21.3 degrees here today, nice easterly, went to beach with Pearl to fly her kite! HEAPS of jellyfish on the beach, NOT bluebottles though.. same size though.. We were eventually driven from the beach by the sheer weight of bloody pitbulls, staffordshire terriers and other angry dogs..!

A noticeably cooler 14.2C here at 7:30am and a max of 25.2C at 3:30pm.

Akld Aero also recorded 13.9C this morn - its lowest temp for over 5 weeks, with an average T-min of 17.8C over that time. So far this month, the airport's average T-min of 17.3C is about 1.0C above normal, and its average T-max of 25.3C about 1.4C above normal. Mangere's relatively cooler average T-max of 24.2C means its T-mean so far is about 0.8C above normal.

For most of the country, Feb has generally been very dry and warm (except until now the E of the South Island and far SE of the North Island). Speaking of frosts, Dunedin Aero recorded a min of just 1.3C last Tuesday and Chch Aero's lowest temp so far this month was 3.7C, recorded on the 1st.
