Nice to see another mad dog NW again today, although didnt pick up to gale force until around 3pm.
I noticed that punchy CU to the W-SW this afternoon, actually looked like a good CB developing or even initial thoughts were it was a thunderstorm.
Braced for the next NW front on Wednesday.

The cold system is still on the cards for Wednesday. Looking like Taranaki will be a good spot for some thunder action on the cold front. Storms will have squalls to 50kts and hail but these are unlikely to reach Auckland.

Yes. I saw those Cu s to the WSW just south of the TC, but not really interested as there was no substantial development to them. They died away just before the dry and only wind change to the SW , then SE around 6pm.
Nice to see you have moved into town but will miss your reports from Kaiapoi . :(

12Z gfs shows some instability with the slow moving front over Auckland/Northland Wednesday morning so looks to be an embedded thunder risk with that now as it crosses.

I think the further south you were the better (rainfall totals from the front). I got 3.0mm (but in all honesty that isnt much)

Nice day here in Christchurch today! warmed up nicely with not much wind really.
Tomorrow for me could be interesting afternoon with Southerly change moving up with a chance thunder if conditions can be set up right.

Winds were generally light this morning from the N-NW direction, then got abit more gusty in the afternoon.
I like tomorrows set up in the fact that its lower pressure and a small low develops just SE of BP, however i dont like the dry Gale NW beforehand.
So theres a reasonable chance there 50/50 and MS putting up a moderate risk is certainly right on the button.
We shall see, strong gusty NW out there at the moment and 17C.

Heavy rain here for the last half hour big drops too, must be some spill over rain from the coast.

Morning melja,

The HEAVY sound of RAIN woke me up at exactly 07:30hrs - the sound of it's drumming on the roof was music to my ears...

Snapped a few pics of the monring skies earlier on this morning... all taken between 07:37hrs - 07:47hrs, currently 19C out skies have cleared sun's shinning and there's a light fresh NW.

Currently drizzling here because the air is saturated. Not too common occurrence when that happens here.

EVEN THE NEIGHBOURS ARE IMPRESSED

EVEN THE NEIGHBOURS ARE IMPRESSED

Anyone who doubts the severity of Northland's drought now has all the evidence possibly needed to support the view that it's a ripper.

Even the Australians have started paying attention, the land where a drought barely rates as news sending its reporters across the ditch to see Northland's big dry for themselves.

Among them is Liv Casben, of ABC News, who filed on Monday for the The Midday Report on channel ABC1.

In a piece called 'NZ's north suffers worst drought in 60 years,' she inspected the meagre trickle that is Kaitaia's sole source of water, the Awanui River.
