What a fantastic morning!
I decided before i went to bed to put out a ice cream container full of water, in the morning i broke it to see how thick the ice was: Here are some other pics of the frost.

Best frost so far here, still -0.1°C outside in the shade.
It didn't endear me to climb out of bed this morning.

Re: Frost reports for 2010
Down to 0.1 here, but considering it was already 2.0 at midnight I had expected it to go under 0. Probably because it never became calm, again Anyway a fairly crunchy frost on open areas of the lawn

Down to -9.2 here Richard as well. Would have got colder but we now have thick fog and hoar frost... so a bit warmer at -5.8. Will be a cold day today if we don't see the sun.NZstorm wrote:Just reporting that we missed the forecast frost here. Min air temp 3C.

Good frost here in Henderson, a ground level thermometer got down to -2.1, while the 'normal' height one got down to 0.4 just prior to 8am

Re: Frost reports for 2010
That cloud bank to the NE is moving in and blocking the sun - making the temperature stop rising....still 2.4°C here at 9:20am (which is cold for us)
Re: Frost reports for 2010
I didn't better yesterday's effort, just missing out at -3.6C. It seems the humidity was a bit higher last night as there is a good coating of frost on almost everything whereas the previous morning only the grass and low shrubs were lucky enough to get 'iced'.
Here are couple of my efforts from this morning:

Great set of shots TT! funny you mention the thing about the icecream container, I've done the same but last night I upgraded to a bucket as I wanted to attempt a mini-ice rink.Tornado Tim wrote:What a fantastic morning!

Having been regularly checking the Tekapo webcam - a long run of sunny of mainly sunny days now, but still plenty of white on the ground.

Re: Frost reports for 2010
here the sun kept outpacing(parabolic type arc) it as it rose but now as it starts levelling as it does in winter towards maximum hieght the cloud is starting to overide it now.

Re: Frost reports for 2010
Lol GrahemeWi.. the wife & I packed this kids off to their Aunty's @ Hunua yesterday so it was a blessing to have a sleep-in this morning, just as well cause the ice has only just melted off my car, which is sheltered.. Rach still had a coating on hers. 1st real ground frost of the year.
Re: The cloud.. I think we are just far enough south here in Pukke/Paerata that we havent really been affected, occasionally the sun gets a blot out but its only for a few minutes at a time, otherwise we in blazing sunshine.. oxymoron for this time of year though.

Re: Frost reports for 2010
Im thinking last night was gonna be the colder night here. It was colder at this time last night and just before dark there was some clouds, compared to last night when it was completely clear. If the NE gets up tomorrow afternoon it will be fresh!
I see the forecast high tomorrow for Alexandra is minus one!
