Good frost here down to minus 1.9C in the screen but with the amount of moisture on the ground , the grass temperature would be about minus 5 degrees.

I usually drop the grass temperature to 3 degrees lower than the air/Screen.
I did have a grass sensor but the horse walked over it and broke it. 0_o
From past observations, it was usually about 3 degrees lower than the screen but then sometimes depending on moisture on the ground it can be more or less than that.

I noticed while reading the "THE PRESS" on my way shopping down CHCH early this morning, the weather page had not one center in Canterbury under zero, but during the journey the only place that didn't have white on the ground was in the Weka Pass, even the Mt Cook Hermitage was a 2C.

i really do scratch :-k my chin at times??

They are expensive!
And anyway I brought a car so, I have to put things off and shuffle my priorities.
I cant wait to go chasing in it in spring/summer, I call it the "Black Beast", LOL ;-)
Perhaps I should ask Fonterra to fund my station, LOL

I guess its to be expected when a house is 90 years old it used to be alot worse before we insulated most of the house.

We used to have ice on the inside of the windows when we lived in Selwyn Street in town but when we moved out to West Melton, we has insulation put in the walls and that made a geat difference.
Now it gets down to 9C with a frost overnight, instead of about zero or below :>

Thank goodness for the modern duvet i say as its only when you hop out of bed that ya notice just how cold it is.
As Michael indicated to try and get the temps up anywhere near mid teens would see us dam near going bankrupt.

Yeah same here when its -5 or below ouside to keep the house above 10 degrees overnight would cost a fortune in firewood and electricity. anyway 0 degrees here overnight just a slight frost late last night before it clouded over 2 degrees this morning.
