Down to -3C at 7am this morning, but ice on top of ice from yesterday made for a bad morning on the roads with lots of accidents due to ice.
One near Rolleston involving a few cars, one between Ohoka and Swananoa on Tram Road which i traveled up with one car and one 4 wheel drive involved head on by the looks with black ice in the area.
One up near Oxford a truck went through an intersection but couldnt stop because of ice and hit a car.
Two outside work both hit the same bridge where black ice was, heard them both one at around 10:20am the other at midday.
Bridge concrete wall taken out on impact with one the crashes.
Any proper police reports on these accidents would be good if anyone knows, as i know there were alot more too around Canterbury.
Even i found by dropping my speed my car slid off a few times, so it seems it wasnt the fact of a heavy frost but just yesterdays frost didnt melt enough and was layered again by this mornings.

Yes, it was slippery ride to work this morning as the back of the truck swung around on icy bits. A car has rolled into some trees after hitting some ice at 'The Whisky Bend" in Jones Rd. near Weedons.
Even though the frost wasn't as severe as the previous two mornings, it would be the accumulation of ice in sheltered areas which would give the roads the hazardous conditions.

-1 in rangiora this morning but it was a very frosty frost with the worst ice on the roads around here and kaiapoi this week, so thats a frost all 15 days of this month so far.
The roads round here are starting to look like central otago with the amount of grit going down :D

There was ground-frosting in wind-sheltered areas away from the NE this morning, but no frosting in open areas.
Plus figures overnight here.
