melja wrote:-1 in rangiora this morning but it was a very frosty frost with the worst ice on the roads around here and kaiapoi this week, so thats a frost all 15 days of this month so far.
The roads round here are starting to look like central otago with the amount of grit going down :D
Yes try driving up Tram Road grit laden along strips behind hedges where the sun doesnt go, another accident up there this morning with a van on its roof.
Very dangerous stuff and people still think its ok to drive 100kmh the maximum speed on a normal non frosty morning, idiots.
I just slowed down before turning into work nearly completly stopped then went to turn in and as i did my wheels locked up and i slid nearly into the ditch.
Wouldnt have been moving at more than 10kmh on the turn manovere, just goes to show black ice can do anything at any speed and i wasnt the only one who nearly found the ditch.
Oh well we can say goodbye to the frosts for a week with this N-NE-NW flow coming in and out, then a cold snap later next week we will see frosts again no doubt.

The problem is the inconsistency of local councils rules regarding what constitutes been classed a dangerous road by way of what landowners can and cant do and what those effects are to the general public safety.
I cant put up a concrete letter box on the side of the road because its classed as a danger to traveling motorists,i cant put a sign up unless its ? meters off to the side of the road, etc,but then power supply company's can stick thousands of dirty great poles up and down our roads while others plant trees on the north sides of roads that turn roads into ice rinks, both are far more dangerous and yet they are allowed to get away with it ..............oh well, thats my wee rant for the morning................damit i need a coffee.
By the way its -7 here

I was in Otago for a couple of days this week and visited the Maniototo area. Beautiful weather but hard frosts.
Photos, Curling on the frozen Idaburn Dam near Ranfurly, apparently this is the first time in 3 years the ice has been thick enough for curling on this waterway.
