16/03/10 - W/E coast of the South Island - T-storm warning
Grrrr, again it has to happen on a Tuesday ...
Plus now that I live in Hoon Hay I'm only 20/25 minutes away from a good spot near Lake Ellesmere !
"In the east of the South Island the front is expected to bring a southerly
change with showers and there is a low to moderate risk of some thunderstorms
with small hail from about the Otago Peninsula to the Kaikoura Coast (see chart).
Any thunderstorms that do occur are likely to be squally with gusts 80-100km/hr
possible."

Re: East coast of the South Island - T-storm alert - 16/03/10
You don't often see t-storm warnings on both East and West Coast for the same system, or am I particularly unobservant?? Clear blue skies at moment, but wind is picking up and starting to whine around the buildings.

It's for tomorrow, hence why you can't presently see anything.Kimkliff wrote:You don't often see t-storm warnings on both East and West Coast for the same system, or am I particularly unobservant?? Clear blue skies at moment, but wind is picking up and starting to whine around the buildings.
Issued at 11.03am that's unusually late for the release.

Doh, no point now. First rule of pulling a sickie, never tell anyone, let alone broadcast the possibility in a public forumLacertae wrote:I'm soooo tempted to call sick tomorrow afternoon ... should I ? Or shouldn't I ?

It's more likely that some of my workmates might guess that me calling sick on a thundery day is a bit too much of ... a coincidence ...Doh, no point now. First rule of pulling a sickie, never tell anyone, let alone broadcast the possibility in a public forum

Re: 16/03/10 - W/E coast of the South Island - T-storm warning
This was always going to be a rather late event. Looks like main surge will be over CH around 7pm or so. Cooling aloft is now occurring over northeastern Otago and South Canterbury and the radar profile shows the precip looking more convective and getting deeper there.
If any thunderstorms occur, it will be in the next 3 hours.
We'll see.
