Hope it doesn't reach central Chch until about 7.30pm - I'll be indoors by then.

Re: Chance of Thunder 24th March, 2010
Was driving back from Whakatane on the Matata straights through solid rain with occasional very small hail. Only one lightning bolt observed at 4.40pm It took 9 minutes to drive through the rain heavy enough that traffic slowed tp 35km/hr at times and the road was awash with runoff. Quite strong winds preceded the event.NZstorm wrote:Bay of Plenty got the North Island thunderstorms today. Could see the cb tops from here.

Re: Chance of Thunder 24th March, 2010
Was very interesting...headed right for us (northeast of city) and then took a nice right hand turn, almost on cue, when it reached the city...bugger.... ...have only heard one clap of thunder and no precip, just a bit windy is all.\
EDIT: I note Jeff's weather station taking a HUGE plummet in temp, as well! Wow!

The Bay of Plenty cb is now in the Gisborne ranges. Will be interesting to see if it can cross the ranges into Gisborne.
Few strikes showing up south of Kawhia (Waikato).

yep disappointed, looks to be heading out to sea, was a few good drops there but rain has stopped now, it is looking very dark to my E/SE, damn !
Edit: hell yeah that temp went way down, it felt like 10 degree drop almost.
