Re: Chance of Thunder 24th March, 2010
I saw one IC flash streak across the cloud from here in SW chch. The storm then just runs away over the peninsula just as it was about to go right over the city. They almost always do this, I wonder why?

Glad someone got a pic of that rainbow, I went out for a bike and regretted not taking my camera, amazing sunset. The storm was still over banks peninsula and it lit up a firery red colour with rainbow in front.

Yes. It did get cold, but the amazing factor about this storm, it didn't drop any hail, even though you could see the 'swaiths'.

Re: Chance of Thunder 24th March, 2010
Saw 12 flashes of lightening. Some rather big! Storm was rather coastal over CHCH City. No thunder heard but brief heavy rain. Short Lived. Still looking somewhat unstable with the passing completed. A trampoline was tipped over in a paddock nearby, whether the wind squall did that or not I do not know. Amazing skies out to the west, pink, orange blue black. Big rainbow seen 20mins ago on port hills, very defined. Finally some action here in CHCH even if it was short lived, we still got 12 flashes .

Great photos there everyone
hills kept most of the action east of here but did see some hail showers trying to move inland looked pretty dark out east as it came through.

Re: Chance of Thunder 24th March, 2010
Whenever I stare at these thunderstorms I never see any lighting strikes so I just give up. A pitch black cloud is only interesting for so long...

Here's some pics.. I'll edit the videos to make one video of all lightning strikes, and upload to Youtube, will take time..

Re: Chance of Thunder 24th March, 2010
Went out for a chase with Aaron, went just south of templeton before pulling over to the side of the road where we took some photogenic pics and some video footage.
Once again unfortunately i still dont have a digital camera so can't post any my pics up on here. Saw atleast two beautiful big CG strikes and IC
The wind picked up and was rather strong for time with heavy rain and hail.
While Aaron drove i kept filming trying to capture some good shots, and we ended up chasing it up the hills as we knew the bugger looked like it was heading out that way.
Some small hail drifts on the road side up past victoria park, way too.
Short and sharp but decent and some action at last!!

Re: Chance of Thunder 24th March, 2010
Just managed to catch the edge of the storm here in Waltham, ahh how great living close to the Port Hills.
The gust front looked very awesome as Andrews photo's show very well and just how much the Peninnsula sucked it away from the city.
Gusts up to gale force with the initial wind change, and some brief tiny hailstones mixed with heavy rain for about 5 minutes.
Some very nice lightning observed over the Port Hills through my upstairs window, one in particular straight across the sky IC bolt .
No photo's my small camera is burried somewhere and decided to just watch the storm for once.
Not a bad early birthday present even though its tomorrow, 23 phew .
