Re: Chance of Thunder 24th March, 2010
Brief heavy showers in central Chch, but didn't last long. (free city shuttle came in handy) Wind became very strong and gusty for a while.

Whats that stuff just before the lightning?
Looks like something being wisked up in some sort of 'gusto'?

Nice shots everyone !
I had the "chance" to "enjoy" the whole event in the mirrors of my car on my way to work. I prefer not to mention the frustration going with it as the front was so photogenic from Hoon Hay at 6:45pm ...

Well done on the clips/ photos
No storm here but we had welcome rain last night, 12mm, perhaps our best fall since early December.

Didnt get the chance to chase last night, working till 8pm but did the chance to enjoy the unobstructed view to the south from a 7th story building in the CBD, saw plenty of cg's (saw the one that was very close to hitting sugar loaf) and sweet gust front move over, blew through town and was over within an hour.

Re: Chance of Thunder 24th March, 2010
Got an amazing storm in Cracroft. We are nestled in close to the foot of the port hills.
Saw lightning hit the ground about the Worsley spur, had a very strong gust front and swirling clouds, then hail for 5 minutes then heavy rain fro about 20 minutes. Almost non stop thunder and lightning,. The final hurrah was a magnificent double rainbow- and at one point I even saw a lightning bolt behind the rainbow- no photo of that though sorry!
A magnificent storm, but it did seem to hit a wall over the city and die.

Hey, I'm on a 7 story building in the CBD (if you include the penthouse floor) with an unobstructed view to the south. Where abouts are you? Cnr Hereford & Oxford Terrace here.03Stormchaser wrote:7th story building in the CBD

^ Yes, fair comment John.
I've spilt the discussion on Auckland's rainfall into 'The Big Dry' thread.
Perhaps the discussion about maize-crops ('Frost reports for 2010' thread) could also go there?

Hi jamie.h. Would never delete a post unless it was a serious breach of the rules.
Just wondered if users thought that the interesting, but slightly OT ensuing discussion might be better suited to another thread, in which case those posts could be relocated (hence the '?'). Not a big deal though. Some of the best discussions spring from unrelated threads.
