New Plymouth Radar problem

Hmm, I have noticed this problem has occurred for quite some time.
Look at that streak on NP's Radar scan o_O.
There seems another problem with it picking up precip around the immediate area where the radar is located.... (that issue has stayed there ever since it was installed)

Is something getting done about it?

waves on the ocean will be the rain near to the radar when it is not raining
M/S do have algorithms to take that out, but not on the free public rain radar
the line might be some sort of refraction problem due to mt egmont/taranaki?

That problem is probaly due to a ship which has a radar transmitting on the same frequency as the MetService weather radar. It's possibly another weather radar. The ship seems to be stationary at times, and at other times moves around, probably going into Port Taranaki (where it seems to turn the radar off). It's probably a rotating radar (like the MetService weather radar) and hence the signal only shows when the two radars are looking at each other. The ship could be anywhere along the signal spike.

How annoying, Could you contact the ship and tell them to change the freq?
If that doesn't work then RSM (Radio Spectrum Management) might have to come into the equation, LOL
