May is the quieter time for business in Qtwn.
Lol. We "media" love to make stuff up. ..we figure the general public will never catch on to us over hyping stuff up.

Btw - thanks for the brilliant photos...as usual you amaze me by being in the middle of the severe weather no matter where in the country you are! Ur images were used (and credited) in the Herald today - so thanks!

Varying amounts of useful rainfall around Akld last night. I see Brian managed 15.7mm, which was probably one of the regions higher amounts - 2.9mm here from around midnight or 17.1mm for April to 9am this morn.

April's rain total was 45.8mm here using the midnight reset time.
Using the 9am reset time, the April total was 50.0mm.

Interesting how your total is so much lower Nev...

Yes, nearly all the rainfall we've had so far this year has been in the form of thin fronts from the westerly quarter. By the time they reach here they tend to be scattered into isolated pockets (very hit and miss). My totals are very similar to NIWA and Weatherwise (Salinger and co).

Btw, I'm also very dubious about some of rainfall amounts at Waiheke-Weather, which is about halfway between me and NIWA's site further east. It show's about 3 times as much rainfall this year as other reliable sites on the island. Of particular interest is the 45.6mm recorded on Feb 1 and the 52.2mm on Mar 24, while other sites only show a few mm. Below is a comparison...

Code: Select all

Waiheke Rainfall 2010
                   Jan Feb Mar
Me 45.0 8.5 11.4
NIWA 37.6 14.0 15.5
Weatherwise 42.0 8.5 11.3
Waiheke-Weather 35.8 56.3 64.4
P.S. Akld Aero recorded 7.2mm last night, which probably represents a fair average for the region.

Cropp sites have attained a maximum of 2927mm (NZ monthly record). Will have to wait a while to find out what April's totals were there.

Is there a link to that data? The West Coast Regional Council site tends to only show the past 7 days
