Re: Fiordland weather stations
I would say you'd have to make-ado with the MetService observations of Milford, Puysegur Point, Manapouri and Secretary Island as there's nothing else private.

Re: Fiordland weather stations
There are plenty of stations out there, between DOC and NIWA, and some very impressive installations for monitoring weather and snow conditions in the Milford Road area (Works Infrastructure/Transit) but the data from these is not publicly available.

Re: Fiordland weather stations
Its a shame, because given the climate there it would be a fascinating place to be able to observe readings from. The metservice site while useful for real time data is not really what I'm looking for

Milford Road data is online just not very easy to find ! I'm not sure exactly where all of the stations are...

Re: Fiordland weather stations
Oh shot, there will be a number of people (climbers especially) who are glad to know of that! How long have you been able to access that? For a long time everyone has thought that data is inaccessible.
Nice comprehensive data too, as it is used for avalanche forecasting.
The stations are on the mountains above the high section of the Milford Road.

Since at least this morning when I decided to have another looksouthernthrash wrote:How long have you been able to access that?
I only found it by searching on the site ... I don't think there's an obvious link to that page.

Yea I'm pretty sure it's not linked. Bloody good to know it's there though! Will be cool to watch over winter.

Awesome stuff! Walkig the Milford track at the end of May, so its of interest to monitor the current conditions, the area has taken a reasonable hammering lately

Re: Fiordland weather stations
Absolutely fantastic - the absolute best real time data for this region. A big thanks to NZTA for making the data available on-line
