I See
Here is a new section where people can ask questions, starting with the words, 'I See'.
I see that Mt. Cook/Aorangi's hight has been reduced due to a rock fall.
I remember being taught at school that it's height in the old measurements was 12349 ft . A good way to remember it's hight. How high is it now?

Re: I See
Mount Cook is now 12316 feet or 3754 meters high. In 1991 an Avalanche of 10 million cubic meters of snow and rock caused 10 meters to be lost off the top.

Re: I See
No doesn't bother me at all. I only have a problem with those who are not heterosexual and are either in the closet or in denial. I have a few friends who have colourful backgrounds.
It is after all just a fictional TV soap opera. People need to chill and remind themselves of that fact. Storm in a teacup I tell ya.

Re: I See
I see that at this time of year, the forecasters say that 'frosts will form in sheltered areas'
I thought that frosts form in areas that are quite exposed or not prone to areas that are sheltered like under trees, etc..
Could there be a more specific term to indicate when frosts may form rather than 'frosts in sheltered areas' which sounds silly to me. Sheltered from what?

I thought it must be sheltered from the wind, but they should say that when they say that, otherwise, some ordinary people could be confused.
"Frosts in areas not exposed to winds" to be correct.
Yet, another weather expression, that should be 'tidied up' I say.

Yes, well, it's a I see, then I don't see.
Horray, I can see the eclipse through passing clouds from the SW.
Moon now 1/2 covered in shadow.

Re: I See
I had a play while I could with a break in the clouds. I would have liked to fiddle with different Aperture settings before it clouded over again, but never mind.
ISO: 80
Shutter speed: 1/200
Aperture: 5.7
Now next clear night I'll have to play when it's not practically straight up and down, darn hard to use the tripod tonight.

I see.. that the young fella & I will have a very comfortable night in front of a roaring fire whilst mum & her girlfriend are going to join the 'twihards' up at Sylvia Park for the new 'Eclipse' installment.. if only they released it last weekend the irony would have been out of this world, literally

Re: I See
I see that John Key would resign as leader of the National Party if National lost the next election.
He must be pushing his luck for resignation as I can see the National party ruling NZ for the next 4 election terms, well actually longer than that, maybe for ever, judging by the influence of the other political parties
sorry, John, you will be PM for ever , no way out
