Re: I See
I see we have another storm chaser here in Geraldine. She has moved down here with her partner from Auckland.
Very keen on storms and was very interested in the NZ Thunderstorm Soc. especially after the bout of thunderstorms we have had here recently.
She came around this WE and is doing a story about storms for the local rag.
Here is a photo that she took of the storm we had here last Thursday taken from my usual spot up on the Downs.

I see now MPs don't have to wear a tie in parliament. No one went crook when ex MP Peter Dunne wore a bow tie.
What about hats? When I was brought up many years ago, you couldn't wear a hat in church.
What about shorts and jandels? Next thing.

Re: I See
I see that TVNZ has changed it's weather format just before 7pm.
Not very good as it just forecasts the weather rather than report on today's weather events.
Maybe they rely on people to use other resources to see how warm it got today in their town, rainfall etc.
No overseas weather info as well.
I don't watch TV3 weather forecasts as they are from Media works which are very poor as their news reporting, so their weather is probably not very good as well?
Checked the TV3 weather tonight. just as bad as the TVNZ one.
Sad that the TV weather forecasts have gone downhill

Re: I See
Watching the now downgraded weather report of TV One, this evening, I see that Daniel said "You may see some thunder tomorrow" for down south.
I've never seen thunder before, should go down for a look? Maybe I might hear some lightning there as well?

Re: I See
I see the video forecaster on MetService website today at one point informs us "we will still see a little bit of weather to start"
I remember when the Met Office used words like "intermittent" and "predominating" in their broadcast forecasts.

Wording seemed to change nowdays, eg. High instead of Anticyclone, Low instead of Depression.
Also I see that ECMWF want to change their format yet again. just leave as it is.

Re: I See
I see that they have freed the container ship Ever Given (although it says "EverGreen" on the side of the ship? ), in the Sewers Canal.
Judging by the size of it, the amount of containers on it, it shouldn't of been there in the first place and gone the long way around because of it's size.?
Maybe the canal should be dredged and widened also deepened to cater for oversized ships like this, or restrictions placed on the amount and height of containers aboard to go through this canal. They blamed the wind for this but I think that was a load of rubbish
Is it windy along the Sewers Canal, sorry I meant Suez canal?

Re: I See
I see in today's ODT, in the letters to the editor section, that someone is going crook about the new Hindon rain radar.
Saying that the weather forecasts haven't improved with the installation of that expensive radar there.

Re: I See
I see that according the Fox news and many social media outlets that Bill Gates wants to dim the sun to combat climate change and global warming?
Apparently he has been doing this by purposely flying continuous aircraft across the sun especially in the USA with their contrails blocking out the sun according to some extremist American people on social media.
What next?

Don't beleive everything you read, It's Harvard University doing some research on possibility/techniques that might work. They are part funded by the Gates Foundation, like many many other things the worlds largest philanthropist's foundation gets involved with.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote: ↑Sun 11/04/2021 23:39 I see that according the Fox news and many social media outlets that Bill Gates wants to dim the sun to combat climate change and global warming?

Re: I See
I see that supermarkets are now selling only toast sliced bread instead of the sandwich sliced option, in the ordinary bread section, according to person who was restocking the bread at our local supermarket.
Sad really I prefer sandwich slice for my sandwiches which have a thinner crust, whereas a toast slice, you have to throw the crusts on the roof for the birds to eat.
I remember the days where you had thick and thin loaves, where one end had thin slices and the other end had toast slices on the same loaf. A very good idea. I think they should bring them back so you can have sandwich sliced bread for your lunches and nice toasted slices for your breakfast toast in the morning.

Re the above posting. I went to another supermarket today and low and behind, they had some sandwich sliced bread.
So maybe the guy at the other supermarket was talking a load of rubbish ?

^ all very curious.
Researching, I found this article quoting an October 2018 report:

Hope it never happens: thin-sliced bread has its purposes for which thicker slices just will not work. It’s the New Zealand food story of the year, and it broke last Thursday on page 5 of Dunedin community newspaper The Star. Under the extremely emotive-to-southerners headline “Thin ‘cheese roll’ bread in peril”, reporter Shawn McAvinue wrote of a noticable decline of sandwich bread on Dunedin supermarket shelves. Sensationally, the story seemed to suggest the thin-sliced loaf could even be phased out altogether.

Re: I See
That's why I prefer "Very Thin Vogels" for my toasties. much better than the ordinary loaf, more toastier
I like cheese rolls, with my lattes, much better using sandwich sliced bread, than the larger toast slice.

Re: I See
I believe I heard a South Island Tomtit in suburban Ashburton this morning.
The call was so obviously not a usual suburban-garden bird that I looked up various bird-calls to identify it.

P'raps he was bustled here in the recent southerly, or else it's getting cold up in the hills

I see that's there a supermoon tonight. How come all full moons these days are called supermoons?
Mind you, tonight's moon has a bit of an eclipse attached to it.
Here's a photo I took of it just after moomrise.

Re: I See
I see there is no mention of the SIMT being closed between Ashburton and Timaru on the news because of bridge damage in 3 areas.
If the road bridge is deemed unsafe, seeming that no trains are running, maybe they could use the railway bridge for pedestrians and cyclists as there is a walkway across it.
Some washouts on the MNL and Midland Line as well, resulting with the cancellation of Trans Alpine this WE.

Re: I See
I see that the weather forecast on TVOne now is very brief now, I call it the Slap Dash Weather Forecast with an emphasis on forecasting the weather rather than giving and showing graphics of recent weather and weather for the day.
I have always enjoyed the forecasts on TV from Augie Auer, Jim Hickey, Karen Olsen, etc.,in the past.
Even though you can get better forecasts on the internet, soon they will get rid of Daniel and Renne and just have a forecast with music in the background with symbols showing sunny weather/wet weather.
If people want to know what the forecast is, why look at pictures/graphics showing things like isobars? What are they??

I see that the government wants to ban importing petrol/diesel vehicles by 2030.
How come there are all these new petrol stations popping up, especially one here in Geraldine and also a couple of new ones in Timaru??
