Let me guess! These new stations are self serve unattended facilities? Without the costs of labour to attend them, they can undercut traditional stations whilst remaining more profitable. They are the way of the future, like it or not.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote: ↑Fri 11/06/2021 17:54How come there are all these new petrol stations popping up...??

I agree with that, but in say 20 years time will they be converted into power charging stations with less petrol/diesel cars on the road?tgsnoopy wrote: ↑Fri 11/06/2021 20:43Let me guess! The new one here in Geraldine, I think, at the moment, is going to be an attended facility.

I see or wonder if Geoff Macklay will have his MAN truck around Breaker Bay for the incoming high tides around 9pm.
I wonder if he driven to Picton and sent his drone over there to record it.?

I see a flock of twenty or thirty little waxeyes among the soft-scarlet blossoms of a japonica bush, no feeding or fighting among themselves as they often do, just a bit of preening and absolutely basking in the sunlight.

Re: I See
I see that this WE has been a tragic WE for cars crashing into Power Poles in South Canterbury, with 3 instances of this occurring
There was that tragic Washdyke crash on Saturday evening, followed by a car that crashed into a pole in Winchester on Sunday, that cut off power to many subscribers, including us, and in Waimate near Studholme a car crashed into a pole and cut off power to some people in the town.
Might write to the TDC to ask if they can remove power poles off the side of the road as they can be dangerous?

Re: I See
I see that there was an overall power outage in NZ yesterday.
Was it just the North Island?
We were allright down here wondering what the fuss was about.
Here regarding warmth we have alternate means for heating, etc., and power cuts have been been of an accidental event, ie. car hitting a pole/Severe winds/earthquakes etc. not by someone saying "Lets turn the power off because usage there is to high"" without notifying authorities, media, etc., especially during a cold event in the weather which these power companies should be aware of.
Heating requirement in the North Island are less what is required in the South Island so a lot of people would have felt the cold.
Also electricity dependency is something to be considered about in situations like this, Bring on solar power.

Re: I See
With extensive cloud over the country Saturday, Sunday, and yesterday, solar power would not have been much help. What needed is a way to store power (in the broadest sense) so that when there is excess water in our hydro schemes we harness its potential energy instead of watching it spill out to sea. Easier said than done of course.

Re: I See
I see that the terrorist attack in Auckland was conducted with a person who was possibly wearing a mask. The media doesn't say.
I have always consider this as an advantage in situations like this, regarding face recognition. He probably didn't scan/sign in, because of his intensions.
Security cameras should be redesigned so that they can recognise a person beyond the mask?
Feel sad about his victims though

I see that it is Nude Gardening Day coming up this Saturday according to an article on RNZ this afternoon.
I won't be participating as I might get arrested.
I hope gardeners, whilst in the garden participating for this event, are wearing masks and gloves because of Delta and Legionaries Disease.

Re: I See
I see the Climate Conference has started in Glasgow.
Will it be all talk or just wind? Mind you you need wind in Glasgow to play the bagpipes!
I see that some people had trouble getting there as trees were blown across the railway tracks in the rough weather they have been experiencing there as noted in Simon's posting on the Weather Abroad section of this forum.

Re: I See
I see that a New Zealand cricketer, Ajaz Patel, has just taken all 10 wickets in a test match innings. Attached is the score card of India's first innings (courtesy of the BBC) at the current test match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
His bowling figures were - 47.5 overs, 12 maidens, 10 for 119.
He is in illustrious company with only two other bowlers having achieved this remarkable feat - Jim Laker and Anil Kumble.

Re: I See
The Patel name is usually associated with spin bowlers. Shame he wasn't born in NZ. Getting those wickets in his home town, playing against his native nation. A bit sad really. That's why I don't like professional sport.Simon Culling wrote: ↑Sun 05/12/2021 02:41 I see that a New Zealand cricketer, Ajaz Patel, has just taken all 10 wickets in a test match innings. I like the way that Patel was bowled, well LBW, by Patel, though.

I see that a lot of Aucklanders are flying to Wellington from 12.01am this morning to Wellington.
How can they when the airport is closed because of technical issues.
Probably fly to Palmerston North and travel to the city creating more chaos on the roads to the city creating more traffic issues now that the Transmission Gully bypass wont be opened until next year.

I sea that see levels are going to rise. What I can't understand is why some parts are under threat and some aren't. I thought that the sea level was the same no matter where the coast is. No mention about south Dunedin or the New Brighton spit/ Rockinghorse Road?
