Re: I See
I see that the government has announced a public holiday on the 26th of September for the Queen.
The 26th of September is already a public holiday down here in South Canterbury so there will be nothing out of the ordinary down here.
It's a shame they didn't make it the 23rd then it could of been a long WE for us South Canterbrians.
NB:I see that they might merge this years SC Anniversary day with the rest of Canterbury this year because of this, to Show WE in November.

Re: I See
I see that female presenters on the TV weather always wear high heels when presenting the weather forecast?
Must be uncomfortable for them to stand there whilst doing their weather report.
I reckon they should wear gumboots when forecasting wet weather and jandels when forecasting hot beach weather.

Re: I See
I see that an Air NZ flight was struck by lightning on a flight betwixt the 2 main centres of the Te Tihi o Maru, today.
I wouldn't be too worried about this as aircraft's aren't earthed.
I can remember a few years ago when travelling on a flight between ChCh and Wellington, there was a flash outside the window of the Boeing 737.
I thought, " looks like lightning has struck the wing of the aeroplane" Thought nothing much of this.
After arrival in Wellington, I heard the pilot say, "We were struck by lightning on our departure from ChCh".
It was good that he told us this after we had landed as if it said it during flight, some of the passengers(I hate the word customers) may of panicked.

Re: I See
Te Tihi-o-Maru is the proper Māori name for Timaru. However, the plane struck by lightning yesterday was en route from Tāmaki-makau-rau (Auckland) to Te Whanga-nui-a-Tara (Wellington). So I think John probably means Te Ika-a-Māui (the North Island).

Re: I See
I see someone on this forum consistently mis-spells the word (derived from the acronym Cloud Low Aircraft Grounded) clag with two "g"s. There are no words in standard English that end with two "g"s.

Fair point, I should have written "agg". Either way you are still wrong

Re: I See
I see that Jeff's Weather station in Hillmorten is closing down at the end of this month.
He has provided us us with his weather info from that site for a few years of which I found quite useful.
Future records from his site will on Weather Underground from next month.

Re: I See
I see, that sadly Jeffs Weather from Hillmorton has now sadly closed down.
I have seen Jeffs weather site in Hillmorton. in an urban area, temperatures would be a bit higher than wheresoever like the airport.
A bit like here in Geraldine with houses and trees around our section. NIWAR's site in Riccarton would be a bit like Jeffs, maybe?
Urban heat as compared to the airport at Harewood and to my site in West Melton where it was more open.

Re: I See
I see hyperbole:
Article in Newshub:
"Bone-rattling temperatures hit South Island"
"teeth-shattering -4.1 degrees."
plunge, plunged, plunging, used 4 times
However, "MetService confirmed to Newshub no records were broken overnight" so that's alright then.
