Re: General May Weather
Just to add about previous comments Auckland probably wasnt so wet because the 1st 1/2 of the month was quite dry still,if the whole mnth was like from the 15th it would have been rather wet.Today sunshine to round the month off...

Dompost has Kelburn MTD rainfall to 9am Sunday as 184.4mm. Not worth checking reliable sources until the month is over.

As @ the time of this post - Alan's station is tracking one storm cell 1143km W over the tasman - though, albeit weak in intensity at the moment the radar shows the trend is steady - Yes !!!!

Re: General May Weather
I thought I heard a rumble of in the distance, though, it could have been the sound of a wave pounding on the beach - still (Hi Alan ) I'm over at your station @ mo and presently your lightnning radar is tracking 2 storm cells out west - one of those cells is strong - though it flutuates between steady to moderate intensity - sadly the other cell appears to be weakening.
Anyway, a huge thank you Alan for all the work you do in and behind the scenes with the Kerikeri weather, greatly appreciated .

still counting into may officialy, now another 17mm to bring total for me for may to 200mm !
first time in years a monthly total of 200 or more for here (not unusual in winter months in years gone by though)

Re: General May Weather
And it looks like a very heavy shower line about to hit Waiheke now..
Rapid development of heavier showers now with a bit of thunder west of Northland.. Upper trough must be moving in very quickly as the midnight Sounding looked relatively quite Warm above!

Re: General May Weather
Yes, that's the WMO standard. Rainfall figures are then readjusted to the previous day, as are T-maxs. However T-mins remain on the day that they were reported for the 24hrs to 9am.Michael wrote:Most of this will record as May if the 9 oclock system is used.
So I've moved spwill's comments re this morns temps and 'the first day of winter' to the June thread.

Re: General May Weather
Much of the heavy rain/ thunder activity has been over water, some big Cbs have formed over Northland.
I see Whangarei has had 22.8mm last hr.

Yea!!! wind picked up.. looked out ther wind and watched the front of that rain band move through here from the NW head E. But, unfortunately I think I may have jinxed the thunder for here lol because I did'nt see or hear anything that remotely signalled convection.
