General May Weather
It seems NZ is going to get dominated by fairly intense Anticyclone(s) around early May.
GFS is pointing towards Southland getting a visit by a passing low around 7th of May possibly bringing further rain.
All of this is still too far away but it something to keep an eye out on.
If we arnt bogged with the anticyclone "doom" central areas may get a good frost

Re: General May Weather
Satellite imagery shows a small crop of cb's coming onto the west of the North Island. There may be a few claps of thunder/small hail over the Waikato/Auckland region early afternoon.

Re: General May Weather
Some huge towering CB over banks peninsula this morning, just making their way over chch city now, impressive, but it looks like they lack any real punch behind them, most of the rain seems to have gone on the other side of the peninsula.

Re: General May Weather
Could see dark clouds to south and east - shower activity seems to be (so far) confined to the peninsula. Sunny in the city, though alot colder than yesterday.

Re: General May Weather
Southerly overnight but no precipitation with it sadly, hopefully something this afternoon but i am not holding my breath.
A rather warm night on Thursday it was 18C at midnight, now thats a first to be that warm at night in late April.
Start of May today the last month of autumn and drawing closer to winter, although it doesnt feel like we have had an autumn yet despite the falling leaves.
Maybe a low risk potential on Monday for weak thunderstorms over Canterbury, but only very low as its quite W-SW so could be more offshore.

Re: General May Weather
I would say you were in the right place Steven, i think once the shower cell line got moving from your area it petered out.
Only a few breif spots here, but some nice looking CU earlier on .

Hit a good squally rain belt coming back from Opotiki just after 1pm this afternoon near Kutarere. Small hail and a couple of lightning flashes.
No I did not have a camera with me... The Jinx continues or so it seems.

Re: General May Weather
View looking South, mostly likely the cell that produced the hail shower.

Fine and cool day for Auckland. Airport only has 15C which makes it our coolest day since October.

Re: General May Weather
A frost should be on the cards tonight for the Waikato it seems, Getting a rather cool and dry southerly will leave no cloud around to keep the heat in.
