Being a 2 edge sword hopefully the SW will blow much of the foliage off before the next easterly and this next system be straight E rather than SE.

Quite heavy falls for West Auckland, I see Brian has had 60mm. Greylynn has had 37mm.

Make that 84mm in Laingholm for the 24hr to 0900. It's been a very long time since we've had sustained moderately heavy rain such as this (and still raining). Have heard via our local school that a small community west of Huia is without road access due to flooding.

Re: North Island Low - May 20-21
yup, up to 70mm here
and rain radar shows a few more hours of this yet....might get to 100mm total yet!
(as its raining here at 10mm per hour)
Huia is very exposed to southerly rain like this, not surprised at reports of flooding affecting roads!
we have surface water here on the flats

the rain band on the western side of the auckland area is now starting to move east and rain is filling in now in the areas to the south of auckland as that happens..

Certainly very wet here, over 50mm for Greylynn now.
edit, chilly here as well, 13C, often our heavy rain comes in a warm air mass.

Re: North Island Low - May 20-21
Another 6mm here since 9am (36mm since yesterday arvo).
Had to chainsaw a downed tree from across a friends driveway this morn - probably caused by a combination of winds and the soil suddenly going from parched to sodden. Winds have eased somewhat since early this morn.

We've had another 33mm here since 9am, so that makes 117mm to date from this event. Still raining but easing off now.

Re: North Island Low - May 20-21
great total you got!
I dont think I will be able to get another 10mm from this system now...LOL
over 100mm for the Waitakere ranges and or West Auckland when the heavy rain warnings did not include the auckland area (northland and coromandel only) is a missed event, yes?

Re: North Island Low - May 20-21
looks like this was a substantial rain producer indeed. the front lay in just the right spot for some good totals for auckland. it has now moved on east, and i see blue skies and sunlight - quite a contrast from last night and this morning!

Re: North Island Low - May 20-21
Ended up with 40.5mm here from this event.
I think Whangarei city got 65mm and Kerikeri 30mm, while Kaitaia managed less than 20mm.
On the Coromandel, the Pinnacles got 157mm and Castle Rock, 99mm.

Only a mere 7.2mm here so far.....
I sure hope the Waikato gets more out of this next low than what this 1 is giving out here.

I find much of our heavy stuff/persistant stuff comes from a tight low especially from the south,we seldom get much ne rain like we used to get in the 80s and early 90s,can remember the sky used to be orange endless nights with really good NE in Auck where it rained nonstop for days with wind.
