Hello again chaps! No sooner had I written about the snow in the high country than I received another message from my wife telling me that the snow had stopped falling and the stuff on the ground was quickly melting away! It sounds as if the cloud is lifting and the sun will come out.

*sigh* I stayed up until 3.30am waiting for some snow action - it's a good job I work from home!

All we have here in Waddington is rain and more rain - sometimes containing sleet - but mostly just driven rain. Temperature is 4 degs.

That wind is incrediably bitter much colder than yesterday brrrrrrrr, and its quite strong and blustery from a more SW direction.
Only a few spots of rain here at the moment, but rain gauge is up to 112mm now.

Having been up the port hills today I dispute that comment. Very wet up there, and here in cracroft still too. Well beyond drizzle
Must be fairly localised right around the hills there. Its been misty drizzle all morning but no real rain for few hours now. The radar suggests this too with a bit of a gap around the city giving drizzly rubbish instead of proper rain. Its almost like a triangle all morning on it, its weird never seen anything like it before.

Hey im not saying its not raining steadily where you are. All im saying is where I am it is a light driving mist and the radar shows the heavier stuff further inland. The Heathcote has been swollen the last couple of days. Wednesday was the day where most of the damage was done. Didnt you only get back from Fiorland yesterday or the day before...or was that someone else? Wednesday morning was extremely heavy rain from 8am-2pm.

Hello Twizel Dave,

Welcome to NZWF and also for your wife's weather update reports, thank you.

I will clear the AIR abit Twizel Dave not everyone who posts here on the NZWF are using your words chaps. Back in the once upon time many years ago (OT, I know, apologies) I recall with clarity a room of 20 individuals all of whom were sitting for their HT (truck & trailer) licence at the time, 19 of the individuals were this word chaps as you so eloquently refer to and use in your posts.

To cut a long story short and more to the point out of the 20 who sat that day for their HT - 19 individuals failed the test and only one person passed - you quessed it (who me - lol). As an afterthought all 19 men congratulated the woman on passing that test - respect.

Really? That surprises me, maybe from the more constant heavier rain a little further inland? He is lucky the heavy stuff hasnt arrived that was forecast around this area. Although, it seems maybe a burst of heavier rain late tonight and tomorrow morning.

Very isolated gusts though i noticed it before with the roaring during a gust before out on the road possibly 50+kmh, and where i was at the time was just a breeze.
Thats what i call blustery winds all over the show up and down gusts, not your average building wind.
Rain might be slowly pushing into Christchurch now by the looks of the 2pm radar.

Heavier rain here this afternoon. Not a deluge by any stretch but very signficant falls on top of a flooded stream system coming off the cracroft / worsely hills

Quick report from down South...during what would have to be one of the wettest weeks Ive witnessed since moving to Dunedin 20 years ago the rain continues! Thick misty drizzle with wind from the South with heavier intermittent bursts of rain has been the order of the day today. Temp hovering around 6C in the city.

Getting gusty here, too, with intermittent sleety showers. Wind chill must be well below zero - while out with the hounds my hands nearly dropped off... brrr

Sounds very similiar to here then. Although there is little on the radar is is extremely slow moving so if we get a blue blotch stuck on us cause be there for hours...

Heathcote River in Beckenham Chch taken at 4pm. It's been slowly rising all day and is close to topping the bank. High tide is in a couple of hours so that will be interesting...

Man we must have almost passed each other. I was there like ten minutes ago driving down the side street that runs along the river lol. Anyways drizzle is thicker along the hills there. Back here and 4pm radar is identical around that area as earlier. Im wondering then the bigger rain band is going to develop tonight.
