Gasp model showing a bitterly cold southwesterly flow for the weekend at this stage.

It this stage appears as quite spaced isobars, though in a light S-SW flow the door can open anytime I seen in the past.

Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather FINE
would be unusual to get a settled queens birthday weekend, its traditionaly the first big winter storms (usually a cold snap), etc
but this year maybe you could say we have had that already...

Top and bottom of NZ might have a day or two of crap weather, High preasure should keep much of the rough weather out.

Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather FINE

GFS had flagged this next low away to the east...
but I see now the latest M/S marine forecast is for NE of 35 knots and rain developing for the auckland area for sunday.,....so they are thinking we will get this next low...

Can be certain the low will directly pass south over northern NI then move to the chathams because the (remaining which is still enough) willow leaves will have my name written on each.At least the genko leaves are rakeable. An easterly after this period would be useful.
Each run looks as if its gong to get worse which we dont need for a long weekend.

Reed Timmer is a well known storm chaser, who features on the discovery channels show called "Storm Chasers"Manukau heads observer wrote:whats that about? Thanks Reed Timmer!
He frequently uses the word "dominating" when chasing storms when he is in a good spot, LOL
You needed to watch storm chasers to get it

In the latest series Reed has his own TIV, nick named the Dominator. Needless to say he seems to be having better luck than Shaun in TIV2.

Clearly the ECMWF got it completely wrong and looks like a low will move out of the subtropics on Sunday giving us more wet weather!

I noticed the Metservice 7 day model is still keeping most of it offshore....makes it more interesting when the models don't agreeNZstorm wrote:Clearly the ECMWF got it completely wrong and looks like a low will move out of the subtropics on Sunday giving us more wet weather!
