Yes, wouldn't be any lower than that, more likely closer to 700m. And this is for Tuesday.Im still waiting to find out the snow level in the lower north island??
From all the info i can find on the net it looks maybe the snow level around 600m but can some one confirm this??? .

Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather
Yeah i see MS has just updated there rural forecast which now has southern Wairarapa getting snow on Tuesday to 700m. Hope the snow level drops would be awesome but probably not that likely though. The models could change its still 2 days away. Not sure how much precipitation there will be either??

Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather
Just had look at weather watch. A question posted on the site was in regards to snow in CHCH city and the answer posted by the weather watch forecasters said it was goin to sleet with a possibility of snow in the CHCH city!! very intresting as even if it doesnt snow in the city for there to be sleet means snow level around 100m!!.
Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather
Looking at the skyline gondola webcam in Queenstown snow is starting to settle at the top of the gondola, so shouldn't be too long before it starts to snow in Queenstown itself, if it isn't already. Snow watching via webcam is fun but I wish I was down there this weekend!
Nelson atm is drizzly with very low cloud, were at about 80m asl and have been in and out of the clouds all day, up to around 20mm for the day now.

That's not what they said at all. What they actually said was...Talbotm wrote:Just had look at weather watch. Good question - we think there's a good chance of snow on the hills and sleet in the city... but aren't yet confidence of snow in the city. Are watching it very closely though and will update our Queens Birthday forecast before 5pm.

Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather
Sigh...it is NOT going to snow in the city...inland around Darfield/Springfield, probably...here at the coast...very unlikely....there is NOTHING to indicate we would get snow here, so in the immortal words of Daryl Kerrigan (The Castle) "Tell him he's dreaming"....
EDIT: ...next SUN night, however..... (but WAAAAY too early, still only a blip, which will probably go away...)

Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather
Have a read again (GOOD CONFIDENCE SNOW ON HILLS of CHCH). (LOW CONFIDENCE SNOW IN CHCH CITY).
If it snows on the hills and sleets in the city which he said was of (GOOD CONFIDENCE). Then sleet at city level would mean snow around a 100m.
This is what the answer from WEATHERWATCH is below!

Some nice photos there spwill.
I'll wait for snow to hit the central NI to get my winter fix. Looking for a cold westerly scenario.

Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather
Have noticed that the snow level on this system keeps gradually falling with each update, that low seems to be quite interesting and one I'll be watching closely, could be a hit and miss affair with the snow to >100m in Canterbury but ever hopeful for a sprinkle on Monday

Yes the high here today of 17.1°C was also at a rather odd time...7:05am. Humidity was 95% or above all afternoon.Tornado Tim wrote:Far out its warm outside now for this time of year, I reached my high at night time, LOL

Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather
Well well well, things have just got interesting......
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Issued by MetService at 08:46 pm Sunday 06 June 2010
Valid until 07:00 am Monday 07 June 2010
This watch affects people in the following weather forecast districts:
Northland
Great Barrier Island
Coromandel Peninsula
Waikato
Waitomo
Bay of Plenty
Rotorua
Gisborne
Taranaki
Scattered thunderstorms are expected to spread onto the northern half of the
North Island overnight and clear during Monday morning. Some of these
thunderstorms could be severe before dawn in coastal parts of northern Taranaki,
Waitomo and Waikato, as well as parts of Northland, Great Barrier Island,
northern Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and the ranges of Gisborne, with potentially
damaging wind gusts (greater than 110km/hr). Localised downpours of 25 to
40mm/hr are also likely to accompany any of these thunderstorms, especially
about the ranges, and there is a slight risk of one or two small tornadoes.
These wind gusts could cause structural damage, including to trees and power
lines, and may make driving hazardous, Rainfall of this intensity can cause
surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams,
rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips. If any tornadoes occur,
they will only affect very localised areas.

Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather
Quite strange weather here in the last 30 mins, started with a very heavy downpour but with not a breath of wind and low cloud, now the clouds lifted (still raining) and its blowing a gale from the NNE. Strangely thought the airport only around 5km from here is still getting light SE and has for the last 15-20mins.
edit: looks like our max will be recorded shortly, warmed up to 14C after hovering around 12C all day.

Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather
I cant get over how warm it is for a night in June! It feels like a January night out there.
Satellite shows there is certainly some interesting weather in store for the west coast of the north island tonight/tomorrow morning.
Nice looking cell making land fall just up the coast from New Plymouth at the moment,

Re: Queens Birthday weekend weather
Its warm, very warm here in Taranaki and we just had a very intense and short thunder storm pass right overhead, but man it was travelling fast!!
There is a strong northerly blowing here just now, and there was a very intense period of rain just before the lightning...
