I reckon most Junes dont have frosts in Auckland,2009 was quite an exception. The roses lost their leaves by this time last year, this year the odd flower still.

Looks like June this year is not going to have had a single frost, that's fairly unusual

Can change, hopefully ec. is right, will need a couple of drying days given that a weak SW flow will still bring showers to auckland, need some days outside chores.

Yeah, none of the forecast rain or drizzle eventuated in Chch today. According to radar, it looked like only Marlborough got any. I doubt that the forecast snow for inland basins occurred either - no snow in or around Hanmer on early afternoon webcam, which stated it was 6C there. Might've been some around Molesworth or other back country Marlborough areas where hardly anyone lives.

No frosts this winter around here so far . Quite a good June for Auckland with sunshine up and probably warmer than normal however it has been wet.
yes, been a mild month. I think our lowest temperature was 3C.

I see Sydney had its coldest June day in 27years today with a dawn temp of 4.7C in Sydney and -1.6C in the west at Campbelltown.

This low looks like it will be pretty intense.

Scattered weak cb's around Auckland this morning with one or two quite heavy showers overnight. Steep lapse rates (7C), 500mb temp -25C, good ingredients for coldie showers.

Brissy (where I hail from) pun intended, recorded their lowest max of 16ºc since 2003 also.. lot of cold air up there. Time for them guys to harden up, its just a normal day for Aucklanders ;)

6am will attest to that downpour, it fair hammered down here and just added more to already waterlogged paddocks, quite possibly could have been hail but I was woken with a bang from it.. copped another around 8ish.

Here's NIWA's preliminary June 2010 National Climate Summary

Another slightly warmer than normal month but very wet overall. Whakatane had a record June rainfall of 321mm (despite some data missing), which included a new 1 day record of 170mm on the 1st. Lowest temp was -10.7°C recorded at Lake Tekapo. Auckland was the warmest and sunniest of the 6 main centres.

M S never forecasted Lake Tekapo any lower than -3 for any time during that month
not surprised Nev

Tekapo had a mean minimum temperature of -4.2C and a mean max of 4-7C ( well below average) does this qualify as real winter in the Mackenzie ? ;)
In contrast Leigh north of Auckland had a mean max temp of 17.6C, warm :D

The statement that Blenheim's 188 hours was the lowest recorded for June in records form 1947 is wildly inaccurate. There have been about 7 lower values, the lowest being 92 hours in 1981. The pre-1947 records (1930-1946) provide another couple of cases at least.

If anyone wants to report any other inaccuracies discovered to NIWA, this one should be added to the list.
