Looks like the rain has become more widespread light but patchy now, which is what its doing here.
Nice slight arch this morning followed a fresh gusty NWer inland at work.
These stationary low systems are a repeat just delivering the usual rainfalls, but August will be different i reackon with some much stormier days ahead.

Looks like the low developing now in the north Tassie. You can see the jet stream cloud there and cumulonimbus development just south of it where the low is developing on tonights satellite pic.

Yes its an unusual winter with the high pressure to the south,the good side of it here it doesnt extend the SW flows right up but its kept the lows here then staying on track parallel to the east.

Looks like rain has persisted just north of the city, maybe even in northern Christchurch suburbs over the past 12 hours according to the radar. Maybe somewhat heavier around Kaiapoi Jason? It has been consistent but light rain as here in Halswell we have been on the very tip of the southern part of the stationery radar.

Just light and patchy rain over night here in rangiora, 9mm since about 5pm last night.

Only 7mm overnight here just light to moderate falls really, but with more rain on the way the dampness of winter continues.
I would say by looking at the latest models we have rain setting in overnight tonight with some brief but steady falls tomorrow morning , then a break or ease up in the rain tomorrow afternoon.
The wind swings more S-SW Thursday night and the rain returns with some heavy falls, and through into much of Friday before easing after dark.
Could be looking at maybe 60mm+ but that amount on top of sodden grounds is not always good news.
Then our typical cold dry blast on Sunday with snow showers to low levels, and possibly again the following Tuesday night.
On a positive note the sun has been peaking in and out today .

Yesterdays rain must have been a north canterbury event as we only got 2mm overnight. Im thinking the heavy rain forcast for friday also will be a mid/north canterbury event.

Really? That surprises me. For once it is you stuck with the drizzle when we have the sunshine Anyhow as im saying that I have just looked out the window and all the blue sky has gone and it is looking rather dull suddenly.

Still looks to be a chance of thunder/hail Friday as the low crosses the north. If it was a bit more into spring the probs would be higher but 500mb-24C is not that unstable in July. Forecast dps are 12C. Will be looking for some convergence to push up cb's.

Yep - frosty and calm outside but a lovely 27 degrees inside. Winter down here really has been a non event so far, especially when it comes to wind. (It will probably all change now that I've said that! )

Looks like there will be a spell of cold west/southwesterlies for Invercargill next week but yes the cold unstable West/SW flows have generally been shut out this winter, I guess we blame developing La Nina for that.

Yep up to 20mm now from this system with 10mm from midnight and its not cold rain too with 8C.
