Overcast and quite cool with the max around 10-11C here, hardly any wind to speak of all day and currently as calm as can be at the moment. Got a bit of misty drizzle around lunchtime but only enough to just wet the ground. Should be a different story tomorrow though! :)

When the NW arrives, the temp could possibly reach 20. Im very surprised the moderate NE has kept the temp between 13 to 15 over night.

Still not much rain at arthurs pass only 50mm in 25h but i guess there is still 12h of the warning left.

You will find that NE is really NW but near the ground it changes direction a little, dont ask me why tho.

I am only a Newbie on this , but doesn't the NE come from a combination of a sea breeze & cyclonic flow, & as the strength of the NW'er builds up, the direction will change as it nears the coast - been solid N or E here, if you check the Barrington Weather website !!
We can see a small NW arch forming but it has not reached us yet. It may even end up with low cloud, as it is quite grey out, & some rain from the NW( purely a personal observation from living in suburban CHCH for over 30 years). For that to happen it will have to be 'pissing' down in Arthurs Pass.

Thanks for my 2c worth ..........Bob

Some of it is cookstrait origin I think hence the strength plus coolness passes parallel Kaikoura ranges.

Looks like the cold front slowly crosses Auckland tomorrow, stalls to our east and then comes back in as a warm front for Tuesday and then crosses us for a third time on Wednesday as a cold front!

Now that's just being greedy! :B

Very different day here today, min overnight was 10C and yesterdays max looked like occurring around 11:30pm last night when it was around 13C. Currently hovering around 12C with constant rain that varies quite a bit in intensity. Winds are fairly strong here too, especially considering were not elevated here at all. Only 4mm in my gauge so far but its sounded like at least double that. Plenty to come for us until around sunset by the looks of things.

Raining here from the northwest currently 9 degrees. Looks like all the wind so far has been confined to coastal areas. it should get gusty here later on this afternoon.

17 degrees here now in Christchurch. average speed of 35km/h gusting to 50km/h. Im picking a big increase in the next hour or so. Reports from in Westport that its pouring big time and extremely windy. Metservice currently had 56km/h average gusting to 81km/h. If the skies do clear later like forecast to, could see 20 degrees.

Hi folks - yes it is very wet and windy here in Carters Beach, Westport. Maximum gust so far has been 53 km/hr but it felt like much more on the beach earlier with the dog. Rain horizontal and stinging the face. Wind fairly steady between 30 and 40 km/hr. Barometer is dropping fast, now down to 1011.8. Had 30mm rain, mostly in last six hours. We are right on the coast, so I imagine the deluge in the hills is huge. Doesn't look like letting up anytime soon.
