CHCH Weather Chaser wrote:A good week here in Christchurch. Plenty of sunshine and no rain. Temps certainly feeling springy now. Things have dried out nicely!

Currently a balmy 16 degrees !
Water table still very high though, as evidenced by ponding around footpaths in Hagley Park still. Wouldn't take much rain to have us a wash again

Supposed to reach 17 today, but it's actually rather cool, sitting on 12.7!

Still some risk of Ch'ch breaking its record low tally of 86 in 1930. But in % possible terms, won't approach either July 1977 (61 hrs) or March 1979 (80 hrs), both with about 22%.

What elevation would the Bombays be? Noticed the LCL was groundscrapingly low today, they have been out of sight most of it.

I unfortunately pushed the bottom on the temp gauge this afternoon when checked what the high was,so i dont know but the NW managed to keep blowing over night,so I'd estimate about 5-6

According to Te Ara Encyclopedia of NZ, the Bombay Hills reach 1,235 ft (376.4m) asl at their highest point. Bombay itself is about 1,030 ft (314m) asl, or roughly about the same height as the Sky Tower (328m asl).

Cant say ive ever seen fog+ heavy rain the same, though i have spent a week in Millerton on the South Island's West Coast when the town was in the clouds + pouring down with rain for the first two day there.

Another lovely day again 18C and still a NW but only light,a lot stronger when driving through Amberley about 1.00pm

Interestingly the south Canterbury heavy shower did produce a couple of lightning strikes. Also weak lightning activity over the west of Waikato to Taranaki.

Nice drive to Tauranga & back via Hunua.. bit of low cloud & fog around this morning, went along SH2 via the Gorge, Waihi, Katikati & return, just started to drizzle lightly in Tau as we left & coming back through the Kaimai's some pretty meaty showers got going.. Wouldnt surprise me if there was the odd clap of thunder, it looked quite unstable.

Driving into Rolleston later this afternoon did notice some Cu forms way to the distance to the south of TC with some showery forms along the Alps.
