Anyway, coming onto steady rain here now, from the constant drizzle that we have had for much of the day.

Re: General August Weather
Rather an uninspiring looking pattern to round the month off and leading into the next month, can read those wind roses off corresponding to the time of day/night like clockwork.

I agree.Michael wrote:Rather an uninspiring looking pattern to round the month off and leading into the next month, can read those wind roses off corresponding to the time of day/night like clockwork.
I think the month will churn to an unwisely thrinage of unlikely stubbs of clockwork rose patterns, this depending on the non-shrinking of the up coming dayhood.

Besides a two or three tiny hail stones per squire meter yesterday afternoon there's no rain here at all from this system.....so far.

Looks like the rain in south canterbury is bringing a bit of snow to tekapo.
Came over porters pass around 7pm last night and it was snowing on and of to the bottom of the pass with heavy rain from there to rangiora, was a stunning day on the coast with around 16C and sunny

Re: General August Weather
I too noticed those towering CU clouds this afternoon which were nearly the height they were last monday when we had thunder.
Just drove through a heavy shower on the way home mainly from it.
But 5:30pm light rain - 6:30pm steady rain - now nearly 7pm and its sitting on steady falls with breif bursts of heavy rain coming down and i mean in big drops too.

Re: General August Weather
There was this cloud building once the 'clagg' was disappearing.
....but then the low cloud moved in from the South and you couldn't see what was happening.

Looking at the radar there are showers just about on our doorstep, yet I can't see any dark clouds moving up from the south here just yet....

Re: General August Weather
Just found this video of it too, a bit late but may as well post the link http://www.nzherald.co.nz/weather/news/ ... _id=113208Nev wrote:
Yes, we've just had our second highest king-tide for the year. Akld's evening tides last night (10pm) and the night before were a little higher than yesterday morn's. Gale-force winds were recorded in Akld's Waitemata yesterday evening, while Tiritiri's mean-winds were up to at least 78 km/h.
.
I did not realise there had been as much water flowing across the road as the video shows.
(however, at Eastern Beach (near here) the tide had come up over the sand and onto the grass with plenty of debris)

Re: General August Weather
Left Christchurch this morning at 8am in partly cloudy skies with fine spells. Got through to around Waikari where we hit some rain and frequent showers continued until just before springs junction. Had a quick afternoon shower here in Westport . Hoping for an interesting day on Thursday here with the chance of some brief heavy rain. Making the trip back on Friday, hoping to catch some snow in the passes. would be a nice birthday present!

Re: General August Weather
A cloudy wet month for much of NZ . I think August was the worst of the 3 winter months for Auckland, very unsettled however Aucklands temperature average will be near a very respectable 12C and there was no frost around here.
