I just thought this is something we could keep an eye on as i would imagine many places will be past or very close already to thier average annual rainfall totals.
Canterbury for example well over 300mm for the winter so far and thats just from June 1st to now.
I should really look it up but isnt our annual rainfalls about 600mm?
It certainly has been the wettest winter i can recall so far, and even last year was quite wet.

Re: Average Annual Rainfall Totals!!
I have 762mm here YTD, our annual average is somewhere around 1200mm. Might struggle to reach that (not surprising given the drought for the first 4 months)

I think that because sunshine hours have been down, it seems to be wetter than usual this winter?

What about all those billions of rain drops that have been falling nearly every 2 days this winter .NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote:I think that because sunshine hours have been down, it seems to be wetter than usual this winter?

I think its more a look at it from the fact that once a system moves out another one moves in and delivers more rain, instead of our usual weather systems over the years that have sweeped on through with a hiss and a roar then several days of clear skies frosts and your favourite 1030hpa highs John.
Sunshine hours are down but even pretty much every time it has been overcast its been wet.
