Re: General August Weather
It was a sight to get out of bed to Brian thats for sure, had an unreal sunlit view as they came over, black as night.. we must have been in a gap between them as you could see it was torrential up towards Drury & back down over Pukekohe but just some light rain here. Lots and lots of low scuddy stuff spinning around & up into the base, almost trying to form some sort of funnel as it passed over me towards the motorway.. havent been that upclose & personal with spinning scud in a long long long time (ie back in aussie)

Re: General August Weather
I woke up just before 8 and saw an angry looking dark cloud coming towards here....with a little bit of ragged white cloud under the dark base....hoped for hail or similar but it was just rain...

Re: General August Weather
Daytime heating is helping produce heavy showers this morning, Cb in photo developed over land from small Cu.

Some CU clouds above the low cloud can be seen now in some of the clearing patches.

Re: General August Weather
Neat photo spwill
CHCH Weather Chaser - no low cloud here so i'm able to see a lot more of these CB's which are popping up all round ,some are starting to get up quite tall like this one to the west.

Re: General August Weather
Looks like a weakly unstable airmass spanning the whole country today. Lapse rates over most of the country are 8C, fairly steep with LI's around zero. A lack of heating will keep any convection fairly weak.

Re: General August Weather
Fairly dark skies near Kaiapoi at the moment, swirling and towering CU bases just waiting for a famous funnel cloud to drop down .
Cloud heights look reasonable too, and there's been plenty of sunshine earlier too after the fog this morning.
Maybe a heavy shower soon with some tiny hail.

Re: General August Weather
Just did a wee bit of filming had more thunder and two lighting flashes, seems to be a converged line pushing into the SE wind.
Back to a lighter rain now and thunder rumbling more inland of Woodend now.

Unstable thundery day 23rd August!!
Just thought we could make a new topic so we remember the date rather than just being in general weather.
Thundery showers across several parts of the country today and more to come in many areas.
Moderaters could move previous posts even from your activity in the NI to here.

Looks a great cb blow up over the southern Waiarapa. Check out how quickly that anvil developed on weatherzone satellite.

This is a good one shows the scatterd CB showers over the top half of the South Island plus that developing CB over the lower NI.
