Just had a heavy shower here with small hail.

Gary (KaimaiKid) reported heavy hail there (Welcome Bay) about 10 minutes ago. Getting frequent thunder here. About to shut down and go out for a look.

Just got a heavy shower here too but maybe I am too far from the west coast to get thunder or hail, seems to die before it gets here. Temperature dropped 6 degrees in that last shower!

Thats exactly where the missus & I had to go yesterday.. Welcome Bay. Nice place!
Also very nice looking storm there up to my north, now heading out over the range. Visible hailshaft etc.. nothing down this neck of the woods, we seem to be in the middle of it all. Maybe later on perhaps.

yep most intense seems to be coming ashore just south of Brian and moving across the northern Waikato and over the kaimais.

Im about to go meet up with Tim and maybe do some local chasing if something looks worth the while.

Wow, it just died as soon as it moved offshore. Good hail between 5 and 10mm diameter in places.

We had a lightning strike nearby this morning which shook our house in Titirangi.
It was exactly 04.30 hours.
a bit of rumbling later on, but nothing as spectacular as that early morning wake up call.
I discussed this event at soccer this morning and the loud bang was heard in Glen Eden as well at exactly the same time.
Power remained on, curious what got struck by that bolt of lightning.

we got a 100mm/h rain rate in that last shower around 3.30pm, it was very torrential with surface water building up very quickly....no sign of thunder or hail though. Looks like it's cleared now.

Went for a tiki tour south this afternoon and curse Murphy and his law. Because the best clouds around were seen on the way home, virtually at my back door!
