What a fantastic day out there currently 18c, oh ok just had a wee jolt typing this atleast they are few and far between but are in the 4 catergory.
Tomorrow looks to be a weak set up for thunderstorms about inland places i would say from mid canterbury too not just north as MS indicate with thier low risk.
Provided there is daytime heating which is likly up near the foothills.

Check out what the MS 7 day model shows, for noon Friday 17th

I imagine if this happens you will get a large gale at your place Brian!

Yes, there has been model agreement for a good wintry spell over the SI from about thurs next week, the southwest mostly in the firing line at the moment.

Re http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4034277 ... for-spring
For what it is worth I see the Southern Annular Mode was only negative for a short time and has been trending through positive for about the last week. edit, a strong positive phase tends to produce lighter westerly flow for our part of the world as we saw over much of our winter.

18°C and a RH of 95%, DP atm of 17.2°C. Makes a change from the winter DP's :)

Im going to dread a DP of 21°C+ when that comes........ although if storms come from it then I dont care, LOL

At this stage the flow looks west/sw so Southland/Fiordland right in the firing line for low level snowfall and up the Western Ranges.
